Vogue Gets a Dose of Nine's Gorgeous Gals

Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, and Marion Cotillard grace the cover of Vogue's November issue in various shades of red to promote their highly anticipated Nine movie. We saw them at the Annie Leibovitz shoot back in February, and the final product looks beautiful. Inside the magazine all of the film's actresses, including Sophia Loren, Judi Dench, and Fergie, posed together. The article gives us a glimpse at how fun filming was for the girls, and Kate even described the experience as "Summer camp." Here are some highlights:

Penelope on her tortured character in the film: "Luckily I don't have to identify with my roles, because if I did I would be dead by now! I've been working since the age of seventeen, and I really haven't stopped. I want to balance it a little more. Instead of making three or four movies a year, I will do one."
Nicole on coming back to work after Sunday Rose: "I had no desire to work after I had my daughter, but to lure me back, this movie was the only way. [But] I'm not playing Claudia Cardinale. Even when I played Virginia Woolf I didn't take the real woman into account."
Kate on getting a role: "I spent most of my childhood singing and dancing and just never had the chance to do it professionally. So when I got the chance to work with Rob, I was so excited, I was out of my mind."

Michelle Gives Vogue Her First Post-Heath Interview

Michelle Williams graces the cover of Vogue's October issue, opening up about Heath Ledger for her first magazine interview since his death. The actress looks gorgeous as she promotes her pushed-back Shutter Island and provides us an in-depth look at how she and Matilda are dealing with their life after Heath's passing. She reveals she is no longer dating Spike Jonze, but sounds like she's staying strong as a single parent. Here's more:

On dealing with Heath's death: "I have been severely accident-prone over the past 12 months. I fell downstairs, broke a toe, put my fingers in a blender - seriously distracted. [I would often] cry, nap, sit and stare, try to figure out what to make [Matilda] for dinner, talk to friends on the phone. I was holding it together by a string and a paper clip in the Fall and Winter. I didn’t know if I could keep it all together."
On grieving with Matilda: "I just don’t see the upside to this. You console yourself by saying it’s all a deepening process. But it’s weird. After the first year, the pain is less intense; it’s less immediate. But the magical thinking goes away, too. And that’s a whole new reckoning. But every time I really miss him and wonder where he’s gone, I just look at her."
On splitting with Spike Jonze: "The timing was impossible. I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: it just makes things more complicated."

On before Heath died: "Brokeback Mountain was an unrepeatable moment in time, a very charmed time in my life. I was in love; I was in a movie I was proud to be a part of, and with a beautiful brand-new baby. Everything was good in that moment. [After we split I started filming a movie in Sweden because] I just didn’t want to be at home. Geography is a great solution for heartbreak."
On waiting so long before she started to do interviews: "I didn’t know what my boundaries were for a long time, which made interviews feel very unsafe. I can talk about grief, because that’s mine; about single parenting; about trying to balance work and kids. But what I don’t have to talk about is what happened between Heath and me in our relationship."
On dating while having a daughter: "I obviously don’t know how to [date with a child, but] I’m falling more and more in love with her and I think she deserves the bulk of my attention. We’re lucky. I can work. She can go to a good school. There’s a lot there for her. And she can know her dad in so many ways, and so many of his friends who will be able to tell her so many stories. His friends, his family - they were a big part of his life, and they will be a big part of her life."
On her future: "I feel hopeful and grateful. For a while I thought we had lost everything. It makes you want to love better and live better and treat people better.There is a great Gloria Steinem quote - and I’m paraphrasing - ‘Become the man you want to marry.’ I’ve taken that on. What qualities do I find attractive, and can I find them in myself? What am I missing? Can I be that for myself?"

Charlize Shares Just Enough in Vogue

Charlize Theron landed the cover of the upcoming September Vogue. The issue might be a little slimmer than in years past, but Charlize looked fabulous in her latest Western-inspired spread. She sat down for a chat ahead of the release of The Burning Plain, speaking about her relationship with Stuart, her background, and career. Here's more:

On Stuart: "We’ve been together for almost nine years, so by now we’ve kind of realized that we’re going to take this journey together."
On her beginnings: "You know how they say, 'Great actors come from the theater'? Well, I never did theater, but I did ballet, and that to me was my foundation."
On playing strong characters: "I can't tell you about that. But I know how I feel about facing my own weaknesses, and playing into my weaknesses and finding that within my characters. My weaknesses are way more interesting to me than my strengths."

Christy Turlington Just Wants to Feed People

Christy Turlington happily posed for photos with her husband Ed Burns and their children for the August issue of Vogue. She took a break from her rigorous schedule of studying for a master's in public health and working on a documentary about maternal issues to chat with the magazine about her life. Christy opened up about her philanthropic causes and how her priorities have changed since her modeling days. She said:

On her childhood: "I skipped that self-critical place that's dangerous for any teenager. I kind of figured, If Vogue thinks I look OK, I probably look OK. . . Right away I didn't like the identity of being a full-time model. The cliché of it! The clubs. . . My income surpassed my dad's in my first year of modeling - and my dad made a good living. That puts you in a different place in your family, and the power dynamic shifts. I kind of liked the power in a weird way, but I was confused by it."
On Ed: "There was something about Eddie that was completely good and healthy. He's such an optimist, a relaxed person who doesn't get stressed out. When things don't go the way I plan them, I get more abrupt, not the friendly, open me that the rest of the world sees. He's certainly seen all of my selves. . . It's better to be known than loved. I mean known inside, deeply known. When somebody knows you, they know - it's not ephemeral, it's not a state or a stage."
On her future: "Now I'm 40 and getting this degree, I might be on the cusp of the career that I always wanted. . . I can't justify [shopping for trendy expensive clothes] - honestly, I'd rather feed people."

Sienna Shares Her Loves and Losses With Vogue

Sienna Miller brought her sultry smile to the cover of July's Vogue. It's been almost two years since she was last on the front of the magazine, and this time she chatted all about her blockbuster GI Joe as well as her upcoming stint on Broadway in After Miss Julie. Sienna also touched on her always controversial love life, opening up about both Jude Law and Balthazar Getty. Here's more:

On Jude Law and his affair with the nanny: "It's dangerous to bring this up. I talked about him in an interview not long ago, saying that I still love him, and he was like, 'Please stop talking about it.' . . . That was a very pivotal time in my life, and I’m happy saying that. It’s a private moment when you get your heart broken for the first time, and that was the absolute antithesis of private. It couldn’t have been more public! I had people on the street being like, ‘ ’Ang in there, loov!’ and all you want to do is crawl into a cave and weep for a week."
On a friend turning her on to therapy: "She took me out to lunch - funnily enough to a restaurant called Balthazar, which I thought was hilarious, but she never commented on the irony of that - and she said, 'You've been through hell, and you need to talk about it with someone.' I got to the point where I was doing things that I didn't necessarily think I was capable of as a person. And I wanted to be conscious of my actions. I think I was really naive and trusting and thinking that if you are true to yourself, that's enough, that's the best way to be. But actually, it's important to become more conscious."
On her love life: “I’ve actually never been taken on a date in my whole life. I have never had a one-night stand. I’m a real relationship person - contrary to public perception. I’m either in one or I’m not. I get kind of emotionally involved very quickly, and I’m not going to spend time with someone unless I love them. But it’s not hard for me to fall in love.”

Sienna seems to have grown a lot since her exploits last Summer, and her PR efforts just might translate into a good showing when her movie hits screens in August.

Cameron Diaz Just Keeps on Smiling

Cameron Diaz looks carefree and ready for Summer on the June cover of Vogue. It's been a year since we've seen her up on the big screen, but Cameron is about to hit the box office again with My Sister's Keeper. The photos show the breezy California girl we love - see behind the scenes footage here. In the interview, she touches on the film, getting older, and taking on new challenges. Here are highlights:

On her new movie: "It's about falling in love. It's about all different kinds of love. Parents falling in love with their children. Children falling in love with their parents. Falling in love for the first time. Falling in love with being a teenager. All of the things that you fall in love with, that our hearts give way to over a lifetime, and then the heartbreaks when those things get taken away.
On the roles she chooses: "People who put labels on themselves limit themselves. If you are a woman who's been labeled as a sex symbol, for instance - I mean, I am not saying that's the label people would apply to me. But if you see yourself that way, inevitably you get to a point when you are no longer a sex symbol. And if you can't move past that, you're putting a limit on yourself; you're arresting your development. And that's where I think a lot of women get in trouble."
On aging: "It's a journey. It's a total journey. But it's also true. I mean, I'm not 25 years old anymore, nor do I want to be. I wouldn't even want to go back to being 30. You know what I mean? That journey-I've done it already. I don't want to do it again. It's a lot of work to get through it, and I am excited about moving forward. I think that people get caught up in getting back to some place that they already passed. Or to a place where you cannot stay."

Beyonce Has No Issues About Her Shape in Vogue

Beyonce Knowles is the cover girl for Vogue's 2009 shape issue, and she took a break from preparing for her upcoming tour to chat with the magazine about the many aspects of her life. She opened up about her marriage to Jay-Z, being a role model and digging deep for her character in her new film Obsessed. Here are highlights:

On thanking Michelle Obama for inviting her to sing at Inauguration: "She told me she was very happy that her girls have someone like me to look up to. And I'm like, 'Oh, my God.' You have to feel fortunate to be one of the people whom parents don't mind their children looking up to. The older I get, the more I think about the amount of influence I have on these young girls, and it's scary sometimes. But I also understand how lucky I am to have that."
On being a happy person, yet acting mad in Obsessed: "Everyone has it in them. You know what's so great? I have made the choice - because it does take effort - to be happy. I mean, I am happy. But it's hard. Sometimes. . . you don't want to be that way. And holding all of that stuff in, holding the anger in and always being so composed. . . it was so great for me to be able to release everything. Imagine! I always have to be so put together, I always have to be pleasant. But sometimes I want to scream and holler, and I'm able to use the characters to release whatever pain or frustration has built up in me."
On what she's learned from Jay-Z: "I definitely have learned to be a little more picky from Jay. Because if something makes a lot of sense to everyone else, if he doesn't feel it, he's like, 'I don't want to talk about it.' Which is great."

Blake Strikes a Pose For Vogue

Blake Lively worked the old Hollywood look as the cover girl for Vogue's February issue. She's no stranger to designer clothes and perfect hair and makeup thanks to Serena van der Woodsen, but scoring this cover is a pretty big honor for the young actress. In the article she talks about fashion and why audiences love Gossip Girl. Here are highlights:

On how the show ignores the economic recession:: "We live in an alternate universe on the show; it's a heightened reality, so I don't think the writers would work that in. They created a show that people can watch after a long day and not have to stress and worry and feel the burdens of real life. It's just an escape, watching these sparkly lives and just escaping into this other world for an hour."
On the clothes: "The fashion is just unbelievable. You can watch our show on mute and be entertained. Just being here, walking around, you pick it up really quickly. In New York, you put on skinny jeans and riding boots and a leather coat and handbag, and you take on that posture and character. It becomes very natural."
On putting her personal touches on Serena's wardrobe: "The more they work with me and see my style, and the more I learn about fashion, the more input I have. It's more collaborative now than it was in the beginning because then I had no idea what I was doing."

While Serena's life was more focused on her boyfriend and Internet gossip than her fabulous wardrobe on last night's episode, we always love coveting the amazing ensembles we see on the show week after week.
