I’m a sucker for old Westerns, usually of the John Wayne and John Ford variety, but this story proves timeless in both its classic and current incarnations.
1957:
This film serves as a great example of the old black and white, sweepingly cinematic, character driven westerns that were so popular in the early to mid 1900’s. Dan (Van Heflin), a rancher down on his luck because of a draught, agrees to escort infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Glenn Ford) onto the train headed to Yuma prison while keeping one step ahead of Wade’s gang and their attempts to free Ben.

I only attended half of this panel because I had to move on to another one, but I can report on the two "special previews" that I managed to catch.
Good Luck Chuck
Jessica Alba, Dane Cook, and director Mark Helfrich came out to talk about this little comedy. Dane introduced a cute scene where Charlie (Cook) is trying to resist Cam's (Alba) attempts to engage him in phone sex.

I saw this when it was in theaters back in September because I love westerns. Before I saw it I watched the original 3:10 to Yuma. I was really pleased with both films- if you’re interested in my write up comparing the 1957 version to the 2007 version, click here.

Jobless rate reaches 9.8 percent in September
Unemployment rate rises to 9.8 percent in September, as employers cut 263,000 jobs
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent in September, the highest since June 1983, as employers cut far more jobs than expected.
The report shows that the worst recession since the 1930s is still inflicting widespread pain and underscores one of the biggest threats to the nascent economic recovery: that consumers, worried about job losses and stagnant wages, will restrain spending.

Dennis Quaid is apparently continuing down the path of WTF happened to my career with this one. Although the trailer looks kind of cool and Ben Foster is a good way to peak my interest I’m not so sure. But, it’s a sure fire rental.

Cameron Diaz paid tribute to her late father, Emilio, at a special screening of her star-making turn in There's Something About Mary, pointing out a cameo by her dad in the 1998 film.
"My daddy's in this movie for two seconds," Diaz, 36, told the audience while introducing the film at the Target Presents AFI Night at the Movies event at Hollywood's ArcLight Cinemas.
"My father just passed away recently," she explained, recalling Emilio Diaz's death from pneumonia in April.

In the gospel according to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, “there are no atheists in foxholes and no ideologues in financial crises.” Suddenly, we are all pragmatists, trying to dig our way out of the Wall Street rubble with whatever tools are at hand.
Well, there is some truth in that. But I think we are still capable of emotional multitasking, holding anger in one hand and fear in the other while grasping for a solution.

(My previous blog has gone haywire, so I am re-posting it)
I was thinking today about some of the really amazingly talented actors and actresses out there right now who don't get as much press as those who are getting arrested every five minutes. (cough...Lindsay....cough...Paris)
So, I decided to compile a list of movie acting performances that have really stuck out in my head as noteworthy and not to be missed. I would love to hear from others as to some of their favorites.
