Believe it or not, I somehow managed to rifle through tons of mandatory literature in high school and college without hitting this epic poem. So I picked it up right before I went to see the movie and was surprised at how easily I got through it. To see my thoughts on both the book and film, read below.

Beowulf is an epic poem, the longest to be passed down from Old English, one of the languages ancestral to Modern English. Most likely composed sometime between the 8th and 10th century (although this is debatable), it is an untitled manuscript and is seen as an encomium, a song that praises a king. In the poem, Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, endures three battles: the demon Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon.

LOS ANGELES — Even as a girl, Angelina Jolie showed little interest in princesses and fairies. Macabre stories are what captivated her back then, and continue to influence her film choices today.

Hubby and I went to see Beowulf at the iMax and it was the most awesomest thing ever!!! I'm totally fascinated by this technology. Obviously the graphics were outstanding, you could even see pores in the faces of the characters, the shape of muscles under their skin, little pearls that were on the queen's dress, every tiny detail.

She may be no stranger to taking risks, but Angelina Jolie's latest accomplishment is making her blush.
"I got a little shy," Jolie said Saturday, on the topic of seeing herself in a simulated nude scene for her new computer-animated movie Beowulf.
"I was really surprised that I felt that exposed," Jolie, 32, said at a press confreence for the film in Los Angeles.
