Gemma Arterton confirmed as the new Bond girl
Virtually unknown British actress Gemma Arterton has been cast as the new Bond girl for the latest installment of the James Bond franchise, currently filming in London for Columbia Pictures and MGM, the film’s production companies said.
Arterton will play “Fields” in the Marc Forster-directed movie, which has the working title of “Bond 22″ and again features Daniel Craig as Agent 007.
Arterton’s casting has been rumored since mid-December, but has remained unconfirmed by the producers until now.

It’s not certain what her role in the film will be or if she will be the main Bond girl, like Eva Green in Casino Royale.

The 34-year-old supermodel has fronted campaigns for the British make-up company since 2001, but bosses now want to replace her with someone younger. A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: ”There have been rumblings for some time about Kate being replaced by a younger model. She’s been amazing for the brand, but they want a fresh face.” The favorite to take over from Kate is 24-year-old British TV presenter Alexa Chung, who is currently romancing Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.
