Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry joined the American Idol judges Tuesday in Los Angeles, and the starlets showed sass, saying no to hopeful singers when the judges — even Simon Cowell — said yes. Katy even clashed with Kara DioGuardi, mocking her at times and threatening to throw a Coke in her face when she shot back.
But the real battle was for golden tickets.

This is a fantastic playlist from yesterday's show. I love the Midlake song that we open with, but there is much more greatness to come. I love this song by the Teddybears feat.

"Please, please, please, just give the dog back," Ellen DeGeneres wept on national TV last week. It was a moment that quickly established itself in the pop culture firmament, less for the plight of Iggy the adopted terrier than for the copious crying itself.

Setting aside the question of whether those sobs were 100 percent genuine, tears are a natural human response, and public figures are obviously not immune.

Directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud
Starring Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Danielle Darrieux, Simon Abkarian
Persepolis is an animated film that's based on Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel of the same name. It follows Marjane's life growing up in Tehran during the Iranian revolution. The movie starts when Marjane is a very young girl in the late 70's, and shows us her life for many years, as she spends her teens in Vienna (after her parents send her away from Iran to keep her safe), as she returns to Iran as a young woman, and as she finally finds pride in her heritage.

In commemoration of what would have been Layne Staley's 40th birthday today, I thought I would put something together showcasing the life of this amazing artist and person. Some of you may not know who Layne Staley or his more famous band, Alice in Chains, but by far this is my favorite band of all time, and even though he is dead, Layne's memory will live on through his music for years to come.
Some might classify the music of Alice in Chains as "grunge" simply because they came from Seattle during that time period, but I've never felt that they could be so narrowly placed into one genre of music.
