Playing real-life roles is the key to winning here, as it is at most showbiz awards. That's paid off for eight of the last 10 victors in this category. Standout examples this year include Brendan Gleeson as Winston Churchill in "Into the Storm" and Kevin Bacon in "Taking Chance" as a Marine officer who escorted the body of a slain soldier from Iraq to his hometown in Wyoming.

Recently, he came this close to landing one of the most highly-sought-after star-making roles in Hollywood. But don’t feel too bad for stocky Swede Alexander Skarsgard, because he returns next week for the second season of the hit series “True Blood” — which takes a bit of the sting out of the fact that he won’t be Thor.
“Yeah, I met with [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin [Feige] a few times and the director [Kenneth Branagh],” the affable Skarsgard admitted when asked about rumors that he was one of the last people cut before Chris Hemsworth was chosen to play the Norse god of thunder.

This go-round, either of her two new movies—Revolutionary Road, which re-unites her with Leonardo DiCaprio, or The Reader—could put a statue in her hands. Winslet talks about having been a fat girl, getting checked out by the moms at her kids’ school, and going one-on-one with DiCaprio for her husband, director Sam Mendes.

Yeah he's here again, the delicious Doctor of whom many of us dream about, but this time he's leaving his alter ego to do the work. David Tennant is going to bring young women in droves to the theatre to watch one of William Shakespeare's most famous "Hamlet" for the Royal Shakespeare Company, next summer in Stratford. The confirmation comes not long after the news that another British hunk will play the same role for London's Donmar Warehouse, directed by Kenneth Branagh, that being hottie Jude Law, 34 years old.
