Yesterday Microsoft announced that it wants to buy Yahoo for $31 a share in an unsolicited offer. The bid represents a 62 percent premium on Yahoo shares. The two companies tried to make a go of it a year ago, but negotiations broke down.

Back in the 90s, it looked like Microsoft might take over the world. But after ten years, Vista, the iPod, and a government lawsuit, we feel pretty safe saying that's not happening. But we're equally certain that it won't be for a lack of trying.

No joke: Microsoft is pulling its critically-panned TV ads starring Jerry Seinfeld and Microsoft co-founder and chairman Bill Gates.
Microsoft spokesman Frank Shaw denied the ads were getting yanked because of negative buzz (some claimed the spots were a poor attempt to counter Apple's "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads).
"All along we said we were having a teaser campaign," Shaw insisted.

Apple has Steve Jobs as its pitchman, as well as Justin Long's popular "Mac Guy" character, so now rival Microsoft will have Jerry Seinfeld – who'll appear alongside company founder Bill Gates in new commercials for Windows Vista, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Seinfeld, 54, will be paid about $10 million for the ads, which are set to debut Sept. 4, says the newspaper.

Basically, when you buy music from iTunes, it comes with a copyright protection called DRM. These DRM-protected songs are locked so that they only work with Apple MP3 players. That means that if you bought a Microsoft Zune, you cannot use iTunes music.

The Dell Inspiron Zino HD is the latest colorful release from the PC company.
Slightly bigger than a Mac Mini, the Zino starts at $230, and runs on Microsoft's Windows Vista. It's a Dell, so there are many options for customization; 10 interchangeable lids change its color and design; other options include a Blu-Ray player, up to 8GB of memory, and up to a 1TB hard drive.
