Saleisha Wins America’s Next Top Model
After a final spectacular walk-off in Beijing, China—filled with stilt walkers and hundreds of uniformed extras—Tyra Banks crowned the ninth winner of America’s Next Top Model: Saleisha of Los Angeles.
Beating out Jenah, the only contestant never described as bubbly, and Chantal, a down-home native of Texas, the L.A. resident walked off with a contract with Elite Model Management, a cover and six-page spread in Seventeen magazine and a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl.

A few weeks ago, the New York Times ran an astute piece about the lack of diversity among fashion models. Despite the fact that 30 percent of Americans are non-white, and although African American women in the U.S. spend more than $20 billion on apparel each year, ethnic faces have been few and far between on the runways of New York, London, Paris, and Milan; they are even more noticeably absent in magazine fashion editorials.
ANTM, C09E03: Jelinas Reviews the Portfolio - "Rock Climbing"
I know that our friends over on the East Coast are probably happily ensconced in their couches or armchairs, enjoying tonight's all-new episode of "America's Next Top Model," but I wanted to review last week's portfolio before I watched this week's show.
I don't quite know how I felt about last week; the shoot was actually pretty cool, and there were some good pix, but, despite the Bianca/Saleisha fight, the show was pretty boring, IMO.
But, meh.
