Country star Toby Keith was trying to give 2,500 soldiers at a military base in Kandahar, Afghanistan, a break from the action, but instead he and his band came under fire along with the rest of the troops.
Keith, on an 18-show USO tour through the Persian Gulf, was right in the middle of his song "Weed With Willie" when mortar fire on the base interrupted him Thursday night.
"We all ran about 100 yards to a concrete bunker," says a witness on the scene.

Toby Keith just announced his new TK Steelman clothing line, but Taylor Swift — who was originally slated to be a spokesperson for the L.E.I. brand — is shipping her own line of sundresses to Wal-Mart stores on Sunday.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Taylor’s fashion entry is intended to last just one season, presenting cotton spring dresses that mirror the style associated with her public image.

Toby Keith has won $2.8 million in damages in the 2001 accident that killed the country music star's father.
A jury returned the verdict last week against Elias Rodriguez and Pedro Rodriguez, operators of Rodriguez Transportes of Tulsa, and the Republic Western Insurance Co., the owners of the charter bus found to be "in urgent need" of brake repairs before Keith's father, H.K. Covel, was killed in a collision, the Associated Press reports.

In a Nashville environment where tales of Deep South trailer park poverty are worn like badges of honour, Keith Urban’s Australian upbringing means he’s had to work twice as hard to be accepted.

In a Nashville environment where tales of Deep South trailer park poverty are worn like badges of honour, Keith Urban's Australian upbringing means he's had to work twice as hard to be accepted. It's not the only thing which marks him out from the other thrusting young males on the country scene.

Dierks Bentley is set to release his new Feel That Fire album on Tuesday, and he heads into the big day with a guest slot on this week’s Nan Kelley-hosted edition of GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown.
The album’s already brought him a hit with the title track, and the video for that song is one of the entries on the countdown. Elsewhere on the album, Dierks has guest appearances by Americana singer-songwriter Patty Griffin and bluegrass musician Ronnie McCoury, and he co-wrote another track with legendary singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell.

Here in the UK country music has been only made occasionally hip when it comes suffused with real roots credentials (cf: Alison Krauss) or as some kind of precursor to punk attitude (alt country’s roots in acts like Steve Earle or Lyle Lovett) but the real stuff, that sells in gazillions throughout its homeland can be a step too far. Brad Paisley’s 6th album sums this up perfectly. It contains some of the smoothest, slickest and breath-taking playing this side of the Pecos.
