MSNBC’s The Scoop reports that Tom Cruise was so afraid of the inevitable negative reviews of his bloated Nazi movie Valkyrie that he offered journalists a free screening at his mansion in exchange for some kind words. I wonder if they included a complimentary stress test with that. (You know I’m not going to be the only one to make that joke today.) It’s unclear if the screening actually happened or if it was just planned:
“Distractingly bad,” and “unengaging Nazi escapade” are among some of the reviewers’ comments attached to “Valkyrie,” Tom Cruise’s film that opens Christmas day.

now turns out that the Tom Cruise starrer Valkyrie, about the World War II “general’s plot” to assassinate Adolf Hitler, may have competition from an award-winning German movie based on the same subject.
Rights to the German film, Operation Valkyrie, directed by Jo Baier, have been acquired by The Weinstein Co., it was announced Tuesday. The film, originally titled Stauffenberg, the name of the Nazi colonel who led the assassination plot (played by Cruise in his film for United Artists), won The German Television Award for the best movie made for German television in 2004.

A year ago, extras working on the Berlin set of Tom Cruise’s Nazi film Valkyrie were injured when they fell off a truck during shooting. The truck was going 15 miles per hour according to United Artist’s account and they claimed nine people sustained minor injuries, including cuts and bruises. One person was kept overnight in the hospital.

Tom Cruise’s ego must be pretty wounded. Wait, scratch that. If Tom was a regular guy and had a regular ego that was capable of being wounded, it probably would be right now.

it was inferred that Bradley Pitt was now a bigger star and vehicle at the BO than the one and only Tom Cruise? Well: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=inglouriousbasterds.htm Despite the favourable advertising campaign, QT helming it, and Bradley's 'superior BO muscle', it has performed less impressively than "Valkyrie" when 'Tom's waning BO performance', and 'his albatross around its neck' is factored in. I mean, the former star with his 'baggage', loss of fans, respect, and work - still at that - drags any film down, if 'he's lucky enough to get the work, of course, he does have to 'beg for it'.

Tom Cruise’s partner, Paula Wagner, has stepped down from her role as CEO of United Artists. Wagner has known Cruise for decades. She was his agent at CAA and helped him pair with Oliver Stone for 1993’s Born on The Fourth of July.
