Wesley Snipes has been granted bail pending an appeal of his federal tax convictions.
The Blade star’s lawyers announced on Thursday an Ocala, Florida judge had agreed to a request by Snipes to allow him to remain free on bond while his defense team try to overturn the convictions.
Snipes was handed a three-year sentence last month after officials found him guilty of failing to file his taxes for five years.

Wesley Snipes has been offered a comeback role once his tax troubles have been resolved - director Spike Lee insists he’s the only man he wants to play his James Brown.
Many feared Lee and Snipes had fallen out when the director dropped the Blade star from his new war movie Miracle at St. Anna - but the moviemaker insists he had to recast Snipes’ role when the actor’s legal woes meant he was unable to film abroad.

Wesley Snipes’ lawyer has reportedly asked the judge overseeing his tax case to let the actor leave the country for work.
The action hero actor wants the judge to give him his passport back, so he can work to earn money “to satisfy his civil tax liabilities.”
Snipes wants to work on two films, Gallowwalker and Chasing the Dragon in London and in Bangkok, Thailand.
While he is appealing his conviction, the US Attorney’s Office have a motion before the court asking that Snipes be incarcerated while his appeal is pending.

Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in jail based on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file his tax returns on Thursday. This was the maximum sentence that federal prosecutors were seeking.
Snipes‘ attorneys, however, will appeal the sentence.

Prosecutors are recommending a three-year prison sentence for Wesley Snipes for tax evasion, according to a court filing released – appropriately – on Tuesday, tax day.
Per the papers, filed by U.S. Attorney Robert O’Neill, the actor also ought to pay a $5 million fine for his “brazen defiance” of tax laws that cheated the government out of $41 million.

Whoopie Goldberg is taking Wesley Snipes' side and defending his actions. Snipes was just sentenced to three years in jail for not paying his taxes, and Whoopie thinks he's been used to set an example for the American people.
She says that celebs who break the law are being used as scapegoats by the government to deter other people from criminal activity.

Wesley Snipes has requested he be allowed to serve his three-year prison sentence at a facility near his New Jersey home.
The Blade actor was handed the term by Florida judge Judge William Terrell Hodges after he was convicted of failing to file his taxes for five years.
His legal team have asked the judge and prison officials to house him in a federal prison as close to his home as possible - and officials have vowed to accommodate his wishes.
