A peek at a collection of porcelain dolls made in collaboration with Alber Elbaz and Lanvin. They say: “While Elbaz has revitalized the fashion house, he, like Lanvin, still appreciates tradition. Part of that tradition includes a strong affection for dolls.” While I'm pretty sure that Lanvin's history with these type of dolls is little-known, but the dresses are easily recognizable, but it's easy to tell something big was lost in translation.

I was appaled to read this! Rumor has it, though, that once his contract is up at Chanel he won't renew it, and the house will bring in Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. Elbaz's spot at Lanvin, then, will be taken by the still unemployed Oliver Theyskens.

Nicolas Ghesquière swapped the robotic for the classic, reinterpreting Parisian chic via suits with draped peplum jackets and swagged satin "sari trousers." The result: a soft, feminine counterpoint to the season's prevailing androgynous mood.

No other fashion house could pull off a pre-fall collection consisting of lace, metallics, black lace, or jewelery like that. This is Lanvin, though, it's a different, darker and more glamorous playing feild we're facing here. It's hard to tell what time era this would fit best in, but keeping us guessing should be a good thing.

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER:
Ann Demeulemeester left her comfort zone to create what rates among her strongest collections to date, one that had bold shots of color, glittery crystal embroideries, and bunched and wrapped toga dresses, as well as cool, drapey jackets and waistcoats for her rock 'n' roll fans.
BALENCIAGA:
Nicolas Ghesquière pushed fashion further into the future with a collection that explored Balenciaga codes via matte and shiny textures. His tissue-fine metallic pleated jackets worn with covetable motocross pants looked like sci-fi armor for a twenty-first-century style-bot.

This is by far the best Lanvin show that Alber Elbaz has produced! From the vibrant colors to the ostrich feathers... it was all candy to the eye.
