I never would have believed it if I didn’t read it in Variety, but Angelina Jolie is poised to take over a role that was originally intended for Tom Cruise. It’s a spy film now tentatively called Salt which was written for a male lead with the title Edwin A Salt. When talks fell through between Cruise and the studio, there were several other male actors hoping to take over the role, but Angelina expressed interest and poof, it’s being rewritten for a female protagonist.

Angelina Jolie was interviewed recently by German-language weekly news magazine Focus. She was asked specifically if she would be interested in doing a European, as opposed to a Hollywood, film, and she said yes, and that she would even like to do a film in French once her skills in the language improve enough in a few years. She said she’s not as much of a movie buff like her partner, Brad, and that she’s either sleeping while a film is on or is getting up and taking care of the kids.

With beau Brad Pitt in the audience and her latest director Clint Eastwood on hand to present her with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival's Outstanding Performance of the Year Award for her turn in A Mighty Heart, Angelina Jolie signed autographs and posed for photos Saturday night with scores of fans who filled the streets, before taking the stage to discuss her film career and reveal a few candid nuggets from her off-screen life.
Among Angelina's intriguing revelations:
• She retains fond memories of sharing a single acting scene in Tomb Raider with her father Jon Voight, from whom she's currently estranged. "Strangely enough, the scene was about a daughter and her father who had not spent their lives together and had a lot of questions for each other...[It was] kind of therapeutic for us to get some things out and talk.
