There have been heated debates about whether women of color (specifically black women) should even consider this chart. My thinking is that you should just love your hair no matter what the texture, but if this chart helps you figure out how to style it, use the chart.
By the way I think I'm a coily/kinky, and I love it!

CURL EXPERT: Christo, Artistic Director of New York’s Christo Fifth Avenue Salon
CUT: Christo has always believed curly hair should be cut wet.
“Curly hair, when you cut it dry, won’t have the freedom of style,” Christo says. “You may wear your hair curly 90 percent of the time, but maybe the other 10 percent, you want to wear your hair in glamorous waves or you want to blow it straight.

My 5-year-old daughter has curly/wavy hair, and I really don't know how to work with it (my hair is straight). Usually it gets the ponytail because that's the best way I can get a clean look. I LOVE her hair and really want to have her wear it down more often but it gets so frizzy!

I've just gotten home from NYC, where i got my hair cut at Devachan, a special curly hair salon. My stylist seemed to think i would look good with layers. I don't.

After I posted this blog about my new hair products, I got a lot of questions about what my hair looks like naturally.
To refresh your memory, this is what my hair looked like using CHI Silk Infusion on one side and Bumble and Bumble Straight on the other.
This is what my hair looked like when I woke up this morning.

Albas's "Very emollient" leave in conditioner is a god send!
My hair is very damaged, dry and frizzy.
I chopped a bunch of it off and put it in a ponytail because it just looked bad any other way.

My friends I have to write to you today. This is one of those days when I'm not feeling too good. I'm not doing much for myself. My skin feels grimy. My hair feels like it needs moisture. Yes I have that curly hair that needs moisture. It gets dry. I use Carefree moisturizing mist and a conditioning shampoo and a leave in moisturizer, usually Paul Mitchell or Pantene. Sometimes I change.
The hair can be overconditioned and when I want to feel really clean I use a cheaper shampoo like VO5. A cheaper one doesn't have as much conditioner.
My nails are not polished and a little chiped. I have to use a cuticle massage cream by Sally Hansen to correct that and no I haven't had a manicure in a while. Even so I have to take care of them at home even when I get regular professional manicures. For me that's about once a month.
What I'm saying is I've shared some of my beauty secrets but I shouldn't get lazy about any of them so I'd better start practicing them. However I'm in a down mood and when I am I have to do something to pick myself up. Well I think I will like splashing my face with cold water and giving myself a facial mask.
