I'm a little bit confused about the protocol of 'engagement parties'. My boyfriend's sister is holding an engagement party, at a hall, free drinks, with a mix of guys & gals (it's not a stag and doe..) and I'm unsure what this party means in terms of gift giving? What would you do in this situation?

I've been dating my boyfriend for 2 years now, and three months ago he asked me to marry him. After some time to think about it apart from him, I decided to say yes (pending he talk with my dad), but now I'm starting to regret it! When he asked me he didn't have a ring - which is perfectly understandable, as we're both still students - but I said it was okay as long as we got one soon.

OUR SOCIETY has reached a pinnacle of self-expression and respect for individuality rare or unmatched in history. Our entire popular culture -- from fashion magazines to the cinema -- positively screams the matchless worth of the individual, and glories in eccentricity, nonconformity, independent judgment, and self-determination.
