The cost of maintaining a home and appliances is often a major deterrent for those debating whether to rent or purchase a home. The unexpected expense of fixing leaky gutters and broken dishwashers can be budget breaking if it comes at the wrong time of month. Not to mention it's a huge pain.

A year after an unruly crowd trampled a worker to death at a Wal-Mart store, the nation’s retailers are preparing for another Black Friday, the blockbuster shopping day after Thanksgiving. Along with offering $300 laptops and $99 navigation devices, stores are planning new safety measures to make sure the festive day does not take another deadly turn.
Last year, frenzied shoppers at a Wal-Mart in Valley Stream, N.Y., trampled Jdimytai Damour, a temporary store worker who died soon afterward.

My family has been thinking of him a remote car starter and a nice desk chair for work...but those seem uninspired to me.
My dad is super hard to shop for:
He has more clothes than anyone I know.
Same with tools.
He likes sports, but not enough to have any gear
He rarely does anything for himself - he spends his weekends working in the yard or around the house.
He deserves a great birthday present - In the past, I've bought him shirts, ties, pajamas, fragrance sets, a GPS...they've never felt like enough. I thought about getting him a nice LED flat screen TV, but that's out of my price range.
Any ideas would be extremely helpful! Thank you!

Okay, so, I've never actually had my own tv. We weren't allowed to have them in my housing in college (we had a big tv room downstairs) and when I graduated someone gave me their old one but I used it to watch DVDs for a month and then it ended up in the trash because my apartment was tiny and I could watch DVDs on my laptop. (I still feel bad for putting it in the dumpster instead of recycling it.)
But now I live in a bigger place, and we're thinking about getting one to put in the finished basement.

Tom Brokaw.
With the passing of Walter Cronkite, Mr. Brokaw is considered perhaps the new "dean" of journalism. As such the former NBC News anchor is periodically summoned forth to assess the current world, an occasion that presented itself recently on the venerable NBC Sunday newser Meet the Press.

I've been dating my boyfriend for 2 years now, and three months ago he asked me to marry him. After some time to think about it apart from him, I decided to say yes (pending he talk with my dad), but now I'm starting to regret it! When he asked me he didn't have a ring - which is perfectly understandable, as we're both still students - but I said it was okay as long as we got one soon.
