SAO PAULO, Brazil - A missing Air France jet carrying 228 people from Rio de Janeiro to Paris ran into lightning and strong thunderstorms over the Atlantic Ocean, officials said Monday. Brazil began a search mission off its northeastern coast.
Chief Air France spokesman Francois Brousse said it is possible the plane was hit by lightning.

It appears that France is beginning to respond to the problems of having an incompatible subculture living within their borders. I wonder whether this is in part a response to the rioting they have had the last two summers, and the accusations of racism among those of French heritage. I have read that even those who are French-born and -educated have difficulty being accepted and finding employment.

i know this is not celebrity news, but this is a story that really touches me,maybe is because i'm a french born american and that anything affecting France somehow affects me too.an Air France jet with 228 passengers on a flight to Paris vanished over the Atlantic Ocean after flying into towering thunderstorms and sending an automated message that the electrical system had failed.a vast searched began monday, but all aboard were feared killed.the 216 passengers include 126 men,82 women,7 children and a baby AIR FRANCE said.61 french,58 brazilians,30 other countries were represented including 2 americans.
at the Charles de Gaulles airport family members declined to talk as they should.the french president Nicolas Sarkozy said the causes remain unclear and that ''no hypothesis is being excluded''.he also told the family members of passengers of AIR France flight 447 that prospect of finding survivor are really ''small''.
Brazil president Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva expressed hope that ''the worst hasn't happened'' and said that ''we have to ask GOD'' to help find survivors.

Outraged France to Promote AIDS Charity during Religious Broadcasts
http://www.lepoint.fr/actualites-medias/info-le-point-fr-en-reponse-au-pape-france-2-habille-la-messe-aux/1253/0/327373
Le Point reports that in repsonse to Pope Benedict XVI's naïve and dangerous assertions about HIV/AIDS in Africa, all religious broadcasts on France 2, one of the major broadcast networks in France, will have the logo of Sidaction, the nation's leading HIV/AIDS charitable foundation, superimposed on them. Beginning on March 20, eleven television networks (including TF1, M6, Canal+, Arte, W9, and LCI) and five radio networks (RTL, Europe 1, France Inter, France Bleu, and France Info) will broadcast requests for donations to Sidaction. Pledges will be accepted by telephone, by Internet, and by text through March 22.

French actress and general rabble-rouser Brigitte Bardot, 73, is on trial this week for inciting racial hatred in France. And this is not the first time Bardot has been on trial – since 1997, she’s been fined four times for breaking France’s strict antiracism laws. Bardot isn’t one of those silly little Hollywood types that gets her law breaking urges out of the way with a common DUI.

Sad and freaky, but apparently it was her time.
After narrow escape, fate catches up with Italian traveler.
A woman who dodged death when she and her husband narrowly missed Air France Flight 447 before it plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 aboard, was killed in a car accident just over a week later.

guess Lance Armstrong got bored with bedding actresses and hanging out with Matthew McConaughey. Or maybe he decided that spending time with his kids is overrated. Whatever the reason, the retired cycling champion has announced that he is coming out of retirement and hopes to compete in the 2009 Tour de France.

Life & Style has a whole cover story this week that seems potentially sensational and reads “Brad scrambles to get a pregnant Angelina emergency medical care - Angelina’s Rushed To The Doctor” which implies that she’s had some difficulty with her pregnancy. The story inside is predictably less interesting and just claims that she twisted her ankle badly and sincethere was some swelling the family decided to travel from Texas to LA so she could get care from her personal doctors. They probably did it for confidentiality purposes too:
When Angelina - who’s more than six months pregnant with twins - injured her ankle recently, she decided to fly home to LA to have it checked out by her own physician.
