Today I'm feeling, and hopefully justifiably, proud of my hair. Sure, its got its issues, but still, it's softy and silky and typically I consider it one of my crowning glories. (Until, of course, those days I want to rip it all out and punish whoever made it the horrible, troublesome pain that it is.)
Heidi & John - Graduation Day
So, anyway, I thought that today I would share different ways to make your hair beautiful, soft, and silky smooth using ingredients that can be found around your hair.

Less: Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Time Renewal Conditioner ($6.19, cvs.com)
Luxe: Alterna Caviar Seasilk Collection ($32, find salons at 4alterna.com)
Ingredients in Action
The budget formula restores smoothness to all of your strands with cationic surfactants. The pricier product contains caviar extract to nourish your hair, cytokines to stimulate protein production and antioxidant vitamin C.
And the Winner Is …
Both pack a powerful punch against old hair age (if you're medium to long in length, the hair is old), but the cheaper version's cationic surfactants are positively charged, so your hair has a better shot at looking like it did before the damage set in.

Less: Samy Beyond Repair Professional Intensive Hair Masque ($8.49, amazon.com) Luxe: Philip B White Truffle Nourishing Hair Conditioning Crème ($75, philipb.com)
Ingredients in Action
Shea butter, cetyl alcohol and amodimethicone help the budget conditioner smooth and rebuild your hair while amino acids, lavender and white truffle oil are the stars in the pricier product.
And the Winner Is …
The rich, creamy formula in the spend-y stuff will undoubtedly soften your strands, but the peppery, mineral smell could turn some people off. The cheaper formula's amino silicones are so durable, they might stay in your hair for a few washings, so you get even more conditioning bang for your buck.

Yesterday I woke up, showered, did my hair and got dressed. Not really very exciting. Then as I was doing my finishing touches - a belt here, legwarmers there - I saw that my hair had dried..and it looked OILY.

I've always been one of those people whose hair gets to a certain length and suddenly, I absolutely can't stand it and end up whacking off a couple inches the next time I go to the hair dresser. But, for whatever reason, this time, I've decided to let my hair grow long. And I love it!

I get a lot of questions about how I keep my locks healthy and shiny.
Easy.
And cheap.
Once a week and sometimes more (If I have more than one day off from work):
I put a dab of extra virgin olive oil in the palm of my hands, gently rub palms together and scrunch into hair (middle of hair shaft down to the ends) and comb through with a wide tooth comb. Just let the natural oil soak into your hair for the day or do this at night, wrap ends of hair and sleep away.

During the winter, the weather here in Chicago is cold and windy. The air is very dry. Wearing a hat can make your hair extremely dry and even wearing one; the weather conditions can wrack havoc.

First off, I want to let you know I have only used this 4x's however I was able to form a opinion on this.
-The shampoo:
This works well however if used everyday it will dry your hair; I used it every other day. The product did exactly what it stated: removed dandruff, didn't overdry my hair and left it smooth (and silky.) The only problem I have with this is the ingredients:
Inactive Ingredients: Water,Sodium Laureth Sulfate,Sodium Lauryl Sulfate,Cocamide MEA,Zinc Carbonate,Glycol Distearate,Dimethicone,Fragrance,Cetyl Alcohol,Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride,Magnesium Sulfate,Sodium Benzoate,Magnesium Carbonate Hydroxide,Ammonium Laureth Sulfate,Benzyl Alcohol,Sodium Chloride.
