Need to open up and stretch those tight hips and hamstrings? Not only is this a wonderful sequence to start out with before moving onto deeper poses like backbends, but it's also a great way to warm up before or after a run, hike, or bike ride.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!
A little while back I had mentioned that I would post a little guide on stretching. Finally, last night I took to it and took pictures of my basic stretching regime I go through before and after each workout.

1.5 mile warm up to medium run
1 hour stretching: hips, groin, chest, shoulder, hamstring, hamstring, hamstring. Quads, glutes, calf.
1.5 mile cool down run
tomorrow is a rest day.

Split lunge
SETUP
Standing with your right side to a chair, place your left hand on your left hip and your right hand on the chair back. Stand in a lunge position, right foot in front of left, feet hip-width apart, left heel lifted, abs contracted and shoulders relaxed.
ACTION
Bend both knees into a lunge, with right knee in line with right ankle and left knee pointing toward (but not touching) the floor.

I am incredibly, almost clinically, inflexible. Until I injured my shoulder this past fall, I NEVER stretched. I have been trying to stretch daily now, but I over did it last week :(.

Yoga —it’s no longer just for patchouli-scented spiritual folks and those highly in tune with Eastern practices. Chances are, you have already tried it or even have friends who don't stop talking about how much they love it. Last week, I attended a class at my macho, testosterone-filled, weight lifters gym that had more men than women trying to stretch their taut hamstrings into a downward-facing dog.
