Eating right is of the utmost importance to me. I believe that good nutrition is the solution to almost any ailment and is the source of true well-being. I think eating right and fueling your body properly is essential to being a happy, balanced, and vibrant person.

Many of the benefits of pets — companionship, affection and so on — have been well known for centuries — even numerous ancient Egyptians cherished their companion animals. However, data gathered during only the last few years have shown just how significantly our health is improved if we share our lives with animals.
A study undertaken in 2002 by the Waltham Center for Pet Nutrition and United States Food and Drug Administration revealed that the heart rates and blood pressures of pet owners increased less when the individuals were presented with math problems to solve if their companion animals were present.

This post is inspired by something I found in my cabinet today: a Nature's Valley Strawberry Yogurt granola bar. I don't eat granola bars (for the reasons you'll read later in this post) but I picked the thing up just to read the label for kicks. Most people think granola bars are the prime example of a healthy snack.

I'm currently reading a great book called Death by Supermarket: The Fattening, Dumbing Down, and Poisoning of America by Nancy Deville. It's a great book with a lot of good points and no-nonsense knowledge. The book is all about an emphasis on "real food," not the "factory food" that Americans consume regularly (even diet fare).
