This weekend I had the treat of seeing both the live action and animated nominated shorts. I was lucky enough to have a theater nearby that was screening each set. It truly was a treat as this was the first year I've ever seen the shorts and it's nice to go into the Oscars knowing as much as you can about each nominee.

I was so glad to see the shorts again this year. It makes the ceremony so much more interesting when I know everything I can about all the nominees. I honestly loved each selection this year- the Academy really has their work cut out for them in narrowing this category down to one.

The Town Halls of August
They're here, they're conservative, get used to it.
by Mary Katharine Ham
It had been a rough month by the time 67-year-old Bert Stead of Redding, Calif., stepped to the microphone at an August 18 town hall meeting with Republican representative Wally Herger. It was about to get rougher.

Happy Oscar season, everyone!
Oscar nominations were announced today and I couldn't be more excited. Last year I succeeded in seeing every film on my list, which was every category except for Documentary Short Subject and Foreign Film.

As I posted previously, the small independent movie theater near me was screening all of the live action and animated short film nominees this week, which I was able to catch on Wednesday.
First up were the five live action shorts:
#1 - The Saviour. This was a very funny film about a young religious missonary who makes door to door calls to try to convince people to convert.

This blockbuster was actually based on a short 50's sci fi novel by cult writer Richard Matheson, which has been adapted to film three times now, though upon comparison you may never have known.
The Book:
A great, quick little novel that puts a unique spin on the age old vampire story. In Richard Matheson’s world, vampires are the product of a virus that’s been around for centuries, spawning all the myths and fables.
