Whose Medical Decisions?
Concerns about bureaucrats deciding who get to receive medical care didn’t “arise from nowhere.”
By Thomas Sowell
There was a time when rushing a thousand-page bill through Congress so fast that no one has time to read it would have provoked public outrage. But now, this has been attempted twice in the first six months of a new administration.

The Kansas City Star reported Thursday that three bullet wounds — two of them in Anthony Crockett's head — were noticed after the man's body was embalmed Friday. The funeral home returned the 49-year-old Kansas City man's body to the Jackson County medical examiner's office, and police counted the death as a homicide.
Detectives and Jackson County medical examiners never visited Crockett's home to inspect his body.

1. Surgery: Crude, blunt and horribly painful
Surgery in the Middle Ages was crude and blunt and … PAINFUL! Surgeons had a very poor understanding of human anatomy, anesthetics and antiseptic techniques to keep wounds and incisions from infection.

I recently went to the doctor for several chronic cysts that develop in my groin region. I have been dealing with the painful cysts for several years now and my dermatologist said she believes the condition to be called Hidradenitis suppurativa. I have tried everything from biopsies of the cysts to surgically draining them to having them surgically removed and none of those options have taken care of this problem and have been excruciatingly painful.

The UCLA Medical Centre has been under scrutiny because of confidential details of celebrity treatment being leaked to the media, most notably the medical details of Britney Spears’ breakdown (her psychiatric records were supposedly closed to generally employee access) and Farrah Fawcett’s cancer treatment. Now it seems that at least one employee, Lawanda Jackson, is going to face criminal charges about the incident.
The indictment refers to an unidentified national media outlet, but a source familiar with the matter confirmed that the paper was the National Enquirer.

* PUBLIC POST *
Since I'm home this morning I'm scanning some headlines, and when you follow a link from a link, etc., sometimes you run into some interesting stuff.
I stumbled across this sad story, and I honestly believe this would not have happened in the US.
Yes, we know that American medical care is expensive, in part because they run a lot of "unnecessary" tests.

Milgram says medical marijuana proposal 'workable' but she has enforcement concerns
TRENTON - New Jersey's Attorney General Anne Milgram said she is concerned about enforcing the proposed state medicinal marijuana laws to ensure only patients can use the drug.
But she said the proposal is "workable" and her office sent recommendation to the governor's office to guard against abuses.
Under the bill, patients would have to register with the state.
