Why children do best with strict parents
By Laura Clark
Last updated at 7:06 AM on 27th March 2009
Children are more likely to grow into well-adjusted adults if their parents are firm disciplinarians, academics claimed yesterday.
Traditional 'authoritative' parenting, combining high expectations of behaviour with warmth and sensitivity, leads to more 'competent' children.
It is particularly important for girls, who can suffer from a lack of confidence and may turn to drugs if care is merely adequate, said researchers from London's Institute of Education, a body widely viewed as Left-wing.

By Jonathan Abel, Times Staff Writer
In Print: Saturday, February 14, 2009
LARGO — Police this week removed an unruly 7-year-old from his classroom and forced him to be hospitalized under the state's Baker Act — against the wishes of his outraged parents.
The boy spent the night alone at Morton Plant Hospital before he was seen by a child psychologist the next day and discharged.

1 - Forgive even if you will never be able to Forget -
Let go of grudges you may hold against your child’s other parent, who is absent from BOTH of your lives. Holding onto feelings of anger will not change your situation and will probably consume a great deal of your energy - energy you need to devote to creating a positive environment for your child. If you dwell on your disappointment with and/or dislike of the father or mother of your child - chances are your child will sense your feelings and suffer in some way from your negative attitude.

Our parenting editor Charlene Prince Birkeland wrote a hilarious post today about the crazy little white lies we tell our kids to make life a little easier or more fun. My favorite one of hers: "Milk is really sugar for your bones." That almost makes me want to drink milk!

I am 16 years old and I have a twin brother. Over the last few months I've noticed that my parents give him more freedom than they give to me. For example, today my parents took my brother and three of his friends to go go-karting, and took them out for dinner and ice cream afterwards.

I don't know if any of you ever look at ParentCenter online, but I do quite frequently. Recently I saw they have been doing some BETA testing and one of the new tools they have developed is a Behavior Problem Solver tool.
You pick an age and then a behavior you need help handling with your child and it brings back articles and suggestions.

Whooping cough returns in kids as parents skip vaccines
By Liz Szabo, USA TODAY
Children who aren't vaccinated against whooping cough are 23 times more likely to develop the disease than children who get all of their shots on time, a new study shows.
Whooping cough, or pertussis, has been making a resurgence in recent years as more parents decide not to vaccinate their children, says Jason Glanz, author of a study in today's Pediatrics. In a study of 751 children enrolled in Kaiser Permanente of Colorado, one in 20 children who skipped the vaccine developed whooping cough, compared with one in 500 vaccinated children.
