Hey everyone out there in POP land! I just finished an amazing book called The Kite Runner buy Khaled Hosseini (wow, that sounded very Reading Rainbow!!) Anyhoo, here is what Amazon had to say about it:
"In his debut novel, The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini accomplishes what very few contemporary novelists are able to do. He manages to provide an educational and eye-opening account of a country's political turmoil--in this case, Afghanistan--while also developing characters whose heartbreaking struggles and emotional triumphs resonate with readers long after the last page has been turned over.

I have Friday Family Night, and dark, rainy days, to play "catch up" on my growing list of DVDs to watch. Well, having watched "August Rush" on Friday, I was ready for a heavier dose of video therapy LIVE, from my favorite bed. My niece was over for the weekend and she had just watched "The Kite Runner" and said it was "good."

Hey runners!
Just an FYI, there's a heart rate monitor on www.woot.com today for under $30! I bought one because I've never had one and I'm curious to try it out.

I watched this film shortly after finishing the book. I wrote a book to film comparison on it, which you can read here.
This film is based on a beloved novel, so I’m sure it will be well received by many, but I felt the film just couldn’t tell this story properly.

Maybe you should brace yourself, because most people will hate what I have to say...
The Book:
Hugely popular and considered one of the best books of 2006, this is the story of Amir, who witnesses something horrific happen to his best friend, Hassan, and does nothing, then tries to redeem himself by returning to Afghanistan many years later to help Hassan’s son. I know that I’m hugely in the minority here when I say that I really disliked this book.

My sil is a runner/triathlete and I want to put together a gift basket/box/whatever with some post-race pampering stuff. Not being as avid a runner as she is, I don't know what kinds of things might be most appreciated. Any suggestions?

The marathon is changing. No longer the race of the elite runners, some serious marathoners take issue with slow runners participating in what they feel is their race. It doesn't seem to be a case of the more the merrier.

ILE - This is an Aug. 28, 2009, file photo showing South African runner Caster Semenya, center, surrounded by local children at her welcome home celebration at the Masehlong village in Moletjie, South Africa. Semenya says she isn't comfortable with her fame since her world championship title was obscured by gender-test revelations.
