Decorate your staircase-Magnolia Leaf Garland

This beautiful garland will add just that touch of fall this November. Heres how you can achieve this look in your home!

Tools and Materials
Medium-weight cardboard stock
Approximately 40 dried magnolia leaves for each section of the garland
22-gauge floral wire
Small paintbrush
Water-based glue
Gold mica
Gilding brush
Satin ribbon

Magnolia Garland How-To
1. To create the cardboard base for the leaves, photocopy the template below, increasing the size by 200 percent. Cut out each piece along dotted line and enlarge by 200 percent; repeat.

2. For each garland section, trace the shapes on cardboard stock. Cut out pieces, and punch a small hole at either end with a nail. Link pieces with double rings of floral wire to form the curved shape.

3. With brush, apply glue to top of each leaf, then dust on gold mica with the gilding brush. (Always wear a dust mask when working with mica powder.) Shake off excess and let dry completely.

4. Affix leaves to cardboard with hot glue in an overlapping pattern, alternating one mica side up, one unpainted side up. Attach to staircase using satin ribbon tied in a simple knot.

We decided to get married in a cave, bat and all - just kidding!! Well, there was a cast iron bat hanging from the entrance of this spectacularly decorated wine cave in Northern California. We invited our closest friends and family and we were absolutely delighted to have the most wonderful designer/florist/renaissance man - John James of San Francisco's John James Designs - transform the cave with his design for our romantic Banquet Celebration - resplendent with the colors of Burgundy, Platinum and overflowing with Sterling Silver Roses.We married in November, so he filled the space with gorgeous roses and fall foliage . The table was covered in a platinum satin tablecloth and platinum silk napkins, crystal dishes and sterling silver flatware. The ambiance is captured here. A wedding celebration and banquet by candlelight.It truly was a spectacular wedding that we were so grateful to share with all of our loved ones. We put together our own gifts for each guest, a Moroccan Tea Glass filled with rock sugar stirrers, exotic Moroccan Mint Tea, a tiny Silver Tea Spoon, Chocolates, Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans, and assorted Tea Candies. We wrapped the glasses with platinum silk ribbon and red cellophane and put them at each place setting.We made gifts for all of our guests, Moroccan tea glasses filled with Moroccan Mint Tea, chocolates and tea candies.I've also included pictures of our DIY Twinkie Wedding Cake! It looks so fancy with the fondant layer, my sister and I stayed up until 3 the night before the wedding rolling fondant. It turned out beautifully!The Bride's Tres Leches cake, and Our DIY Twinkie Wedding Cake. It looks so elegant with the fondant, and everyone LOVED it!The cave was spectacular, and the banquet was almost Royal!We had a fall wedding in a wine cave, a Banquet to share with our loved onesMy mother in law made the groom's cake, a Red Velvet Chocolate Cake. It was delicious! John James left no detail undone, and he even added the beautiful last minute touches.The groom's Red Velvet Cake.My dress was exactly what I wanted, something colorful and unique. Platinum silk taffeta with embroidery in gold, platinum, fuchsia, turquoise and cobalt blue. I had dinner with two different sets of friends but the thing they had in common was that it was sort of "last suppers". One of my high school girl friends was leaving for England for the holidays, and then my favourite clubbing buddies were leaving too. One was going back to France (since he was only here as an exchange student anyway) and the other was spending her Christmas back home (New Jersey or Vermont, not sure.) Sigh.
