$2.3 million in federal stimulus money is going to pay for Tampa Bay area beauty school tuition
By Will Van Sant, Times Staff Writer
More than $2.3 million in federal economic stimulus grants have gone to eight Tampa Bay area cosmetology and massage schools to pay tuition for the hairdressers, masseuses and nail technicians of tomorrow.
That's swell news for those who see the beauty trades as a way to gain a firmer footing in the job market. But is there truly demand for more beauty school graduates at bay area salons?

I wanted to share the best play from the Pens-Lightning game last night. Jarkko Ruutu, whose stick was slashed by a Lightning player, showed off his Finnish soccer skills and dribbled the puck down the ice and kicked a beautiful pass across the ice. No goal, but we did get a power play out of it.

"Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced Saturday that the Pittsburgh Penguins have traded the rights to pending unrestricted free agent forwards Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Dallas’ fourth round pick, previously obtained by Tampa Bay, in the 2009 Entry Draft. In the event Tampa Bay signs Malone to a contract for the 2008-09 season, the pick will become Tampa Bay’s third round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft.
Both Malone and Roberts are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on July 1, 2008.

LUTZ, Fla. (AP) - One day after she was plunked on the head by Bill Murray's wayward tee shot, Gayle DiMaggio had a request: a signed copy of his movie "Caddyshack."
The actor, meanwhile, was back on the course Saturday for the second round of the Outback Pro-Am.

Declaring that America should "make no little plans," President Obama declared his intention to build a nationwide system of high-speed rail lines in some of the country's most populated corridors.
Speaking at the Old Executive Office Building before a trip to Mexico and Trinidad this morning, Obama said there is no reason why the most modern transportation systems should be built in other countries.

Tea Party protests are flash crowds of gathering movement to stop Obama
By Mark Tapscott
Editorial Page Editor (The Examiner)
Thousands of Americans in dozens of cities large and small, coast to coast have assembled recently to protest President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus spending, proposed budget deficits and tax hikes on small business and other entrepreneurs.
But odds are that the vast majority of people who depend solely on the mainstream media’s print and broadcast giants for their news know little or nothing about the protests.
Why?

Obama Protests aka Tea Parties Largely Ignored by Media
By Noel Sheppard
Since CNBC's Rick Santelli first suggested a Chicago Tea Party to protest President Obama's plans to "stimulate" the economy and bailout homeowners through unrestrained government spending, organized demonstrations have been occurring across the fruited plain.
In fact, as Glenn Reynolds reported moments ago, there's one happening today in Cincinnati.
Unfortunately, unless you frequent conservative websites, you'd have no idea that such events were being staged.
