From Collider
Over the last few months, pre-production on Robert Pattinson’s Bel Ami has been charging forward as we’ve covered the casting of Christina Ricci and Uma Thurman/Kristin Scott Thomas. Now that the casting of the major players has been completed, we’ve been told principal photography on Bel Ami is scheduled to begin February 7 and they’ll be filming in London and Budapest. (SO excited)Here’s the synopsis:Bel Ami is the story of Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson), who travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.

I waited until after the nominees were announced to see this film. I had a screener copy, but wanted to see it large on the big screen so I waited to see if it would get nominated for Best Picture before I watched the screener. That way, I knew I’d see it in the Best Picture Showcase as well and get a chance to see its beauty the way it was meant to be seen.

I saw this film over Thanksgiving weekend with my movie-loving aunt and uncle and I'm so glad I did as it seemed to get lost in the holiday shuffle this year.
Just before WWII, Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman), an English aristocrat, inherits a ranch in Australia and flies there to prep the land for sale. Once there she becomes close with the hands on the ranch and discovers that the local businessman who wants to buy the ranch, Neil Fletcher (David Wenham), has been monopolizing the cattle industry and stealing cattle from her herd.

The term "haute couture" is French. Haute means "high" or
"elegant." Couture literally means "sewing," but has come
to indicate the business of designing, creating, and
selling custom-made, high fashion women's clothes.

THEY are harsh words, but probably sound advice for the British girl who is now dating George Clooney. "Just enjoy the love affair while it lasts - and guard your heart," says the Hollywood star's former girlfriend Kimberly Russell.
"Eventually, a woman finds that George simply ain't the marrying kind."
