Right Hand or Left???

Hey there - quick question. I know your engagement ring is supposed to go on your left hand. But what are the "rules" about the wedding band?

I love my engagement ring just as it is - he had it custom made, and it was just what I wanted, only better (he asked my best friend to help - that's what best friends are for).

The band tapers in towards the center diamond, so the jewelry store where he got it said I'd have to get a wedding band custom made as well, to fit under the engagement ring perfectly.

But I don't want a curved wedding band. What's the deal? I'd rather wear my engagement ring on my right hand and get a wedding band I love for my left hand. I'd like to spread my diamonds out, thank you very much.

What do you think? Is there a "rule" about it?

What's the Deal with the Ring?

So earlier today, I decided to be a good wife and brought my hubby lunch while he was at work. On my way back, I met an American couple who was visiting Tokyo for the first time and I ended up being a impromptu guide. After giving them a brief background about me, the wife was shocked when she looked down at my hands, and saw that I didn't have my wedding ring on.

Now I've never been a big jewelry type of person. The only ones that I wear consistently are my necklace and watch. I like to accessorize here and there, but on the average day not very often; and I don't like having things on my fingers all the time. I always put my wedding ring on my necklace when I'm not wearing it, which happens to be on most days, and my engagement is usually in it's box. I tried to explain that to them and also how most couples in Asia don't usually wear their engagement or wedding rings, as it's still a relatively newer westernized concept but they were still quite shocked. The wife went so far to tell me it was pretty disrespectful for me NOT to wear my ring. I'm not getting it. Am I missing something here? So because I'm now married that means I have to wear my rings at all times?

on a side note, nearly all of our stuff have finally arrived, I'm almost done unpacking, and my Mr. Sunshine is finally home!

Thank you to those that understood the message. Facts that I probably should have elaborated on: my soon to be hubby is very comfortable, what he paid for was not worth what he got (a grand goes a long way and I just wanted something people can see, that was still under $1K), at the end of the day it wasn't about the ring (I did say, YES! with an enormous smile on my pretty little face despite being let down with the proposal).
I actually liked the ring (well, the setting and the metal-titanium), up until people started to frown upon it. People no matter what, eventually all the negativity that comes from family/friends/co-workers, begins to take a toll on your feelings. Hell, is mother was dumfounded by my ring! I was overly excited about planning and actually in no rush (2yr engagement seemed reasonable to me) but he just didn't seem to want to plan. Why ask someone to get married if you don’t want to set up stuff to actually marry especially when you have two sets of parents breathing down your neck.
The actual wedding budget I set was $6K for 100 people (that is cheap), yet the places he did want cost over $10K for 50 people or he wanted a destination wedding that would have cost so much more. I thought anything over $5K was too much (I didn’t understand his logic or still do). I am not up for spending all that money on a wedding either, I want a nice honeymoon. But for the sake of it being unique or out of this world, he is up for spending that much money? Do you understand his logic? We are still working on that date and it looks like it’s going to be a backyard wedding and I am fine with that but I want to make decisions because I want to have answers for all the madrinas and padrinos that are helping out with our wedding.
I brought this entire topic up to him the other night (after seeing some of the comments) over some Wii and I mentioned to him what I did and I made him read the article. We laughed about it together and he bickered because he hates the internet, but he finally understood my point of view. He still can’t believe that I basically blogged our situation. LOL.
I’m a reasonable gal people. Not a gold digger, no need for a sugar daddy. This little lady busts her butt, day in and day out and I pay my share of date nights. Thanks to those supportive folks that mentioned I should just talk to him again, calmly; not frustrated or angry (as I was doing). We are still set for a long engagement and he apologized for the proposal because he agreed, he did not think it through; he was “nervous.” He wasn’t nervous to me, he just doesn’t like holidays, family outings, anything that is traditional or conventional. But guess what, I do and I meet him half way on a lot. He should do the same for me.
The engagement ring will be my wedding band and I am still getting my half carat ring this year because that is all I wanted and you know what….I deserve it.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. Piscataway's public works crew used some high-tech gear to recover a wedding band that a 2-year-old had flushed down the toilet.
Angelica Nols had taken her rings off to wash her face on Aug. 9 when her daughter, Isabella, said she had to go potty.

The mom heard a flush when she went to get a towel. The ring was gone.

Her husband called the public works department on Tuesday and a crew arrived with the township's new $200,000 pipeline-inspection unit. The truck is equipped with a camera that snakes its way through the sewer lines.

The workers soon spotted the ring next to a penny.

Angelica Nols says she wanted to kiss the ring, but the workers advised against it.
