It's being reported that MTV will announce that Russell Brand will host the MTV Video Music Awards 2009, despite the controversy he caused last year when he took the hosting gig. He will be the first host to take the reins of the show for two years in a row! The awards are due to take place at Madison Square Gardens in September, apparently with a West Side Story theme, but do you want to see Russell host the show again?

There's been a lot of chatter today about Britney Spears's three moonmen at the 2008 MTV VMAs on Sunday, but I want to briefly turn our attention to something else: the performances. Kanye crooned, Pink strutted, and the Jonas Brothers rocked out on a porch stoop. Which of the evening's musical interludes was your favorite?

As I told you earlier, Britney Spears won three awards last night, sweeping the board at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. After her cringeworthy comeback performance last year, it felt like this year she'd finally got it all together — she looked stunning in her mini-dress as she opened the show with a skit featuring Jonah Hill (UK readers, you can watch it all unfold on MTV tonight from 8pm). Rihanna, T.I, Christina Aguilera and the Jonas Brothers also put on some memorable performances, with Pink's spectacle of a performance standing out as a particular highlight.

LA was host to the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards last night, and nominees, presenters and performers flocked to the red carpet for the show. Black seemed to be the order of the day as Christina Aguilera, Ashlee Simpson, Miley Cyrus and Heidi Montag showed up in gothic tones, meanwhile Heidi's The Hills arch-enemy Lauren Conrad showed up in a gorgeous short white dress. Pink wore a striking red and black striped number, while Katy Perry turned up in...

Last year was supposed to be the big Britney Spears comeback show at the MTV Video Music Awards — but this year marked Britney's real return. Britney won her first VMA (and, before long, her second and third), taking home the moonmen for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, and Video of the Year for "Piece of Me."
Russell Brand hosted the 25th ceremony, which included today's chart-toppers putting their own spins on classic songs (Katy Perry singing a snippet of "Like a Virgin," etc).

Amazing, isn't it, that we've had a quarter-century of awesome performances and crazy stunts at the MTV Video Music Awards? This year's 25th installment of the irreverent awards ceremony kicks off tonight at 8 p.m., with a whole bunch of new moonmen just waiting to be handed out.
A few things we know about tonight's show: Russell Brand is hosting, which should mean lots of borderline bleep-able moments.

Russell Brand was full of smiles as he went to the cinema in Hollywood. The comedian is spending more and more time in LA, as the biggest presenting gig of his life approaches.
When he's not spending time chatting up mannequins, Russell will no doubt be busy preparing for the MTV Video Music Awards.

So here they are, the much talked about MTV Video Music Awards promo spots featuring Britney Spears and our very own Russell Brand... or is it Brown?
I'm loving that in the first one they're addressing that some people in the US don't really know who Russell is, that Britney is so together and fabulous (yay!), and the elephant in the room!
