Obama's Ass Got a Lot of Grabs on the Campaign Trail

Perhaps President Obama wasn't checking out that woman's ass back in July after all, because he knows firsthand how annoying it is to be treated like a piece of meat.

According to a new book by Christopher Andersen, Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage, Barack had to deal with women who would "grasp him firmly by the derriere - and sometimes try to hold on." Yikes!

So what did the soon-to-be first family make of this? The book reports that Barack said:

"Jesus, I wish they'd stop grabbing my ass."

And what did Michelle think? She supposedly said:

"I want to tell these women, 'Back off. Get a life.' It's just embarrassing, that's all."

I guess some women can't resist a little piece of presidential booty!

Literary agents predict that a book scribed by Sarah Palin would bring in enough cash for the former VP candidate to make many scandal-free visits to Neiman-Marcus. Experts believe that Palin's book deal could be worth $7 million. Since the latest battle for the White House was especially dramatic, there are many other behind-the-scenes-characters that could write about their experiences. Regular Mom Michelle Obama Gives Us Her View

Barack and Michelle Obama are telling the American people what they want to know: how they fell in love. Six pages of the newest issue of Us Weekly, will explore their romance and feature the Obama family photo album. Michelle's message: I'm your typical American mom. Perhaps Americans want to see a softer side in their first lady. And as far as campaign strategy goes - Us Weekly may not be The Atlantic, but it sure attracts a lot of eyes at grocery stores.

As part of her mission to meet America, Michelle also co-hosted The View this morning. She looked vibrant and at ease, as she asked for a fist bump from all the ladies. Michelle also managed to ask guest Matthew Broderick what motivated his 5-year-old son to endorse her husband.

Will you pick up the Obama issue that hits newsstands nationwide Friday? Are these lighter and more human appeals a breath of fresh air during a tough political season; or would you like to stick to the issues and the candidates? Fighting On, Hillary's Still Here! What's Her Next Best Move?

Obama's name might be in million-point font on the front of every paper, but hanging in there with a little Comic Sans of her own is Hillary Clinton. And now the big question remains: WWHD? What Will Hillary Do?

She posed that question last night in a speech (one that was infinitely better planned than the McCain cringer, but more on that later) to supporters in New York saying

Now, the question is: Where do we go from here? And given how far we've come and where we need to go as a party, it's a question I don't take lightly. This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight. But this has always been your campaign. So, to the 18 million people who voted for me, and to our many other supporters out there of all ages, I want to hear from you. I hope you'll go to my Web site at HillaryClinton.com and share your thoughts with me and help in any way that you can.

In the middle of the empty auditorium, with no celebratory confetti to be found, is that big ol' elephant. Hillary has over 1,900 pledged delegates, a scant 200 or so fewer than Obama. Until she formally withdraws, those delegates stay in her pocket - a peanut for the elephant if you will. So what does she do with them?

While experts try to parse "what went wrong" with her campaign, Nancy Pelosi and pals call for a Friday deadline for the Superdelegates to decide, and people make lists of why she's still in it, the question is a little different: What Should Hillary Do?

Front Page: Myanmar Accepts All Aid, McCain Rejects Hagee, Italy Goes Nuclear

Myanmar Accepts All Aid: Myanmar's junta agreed this morning to admit cyclone aid workers "regardless of nationalities" said UN officials. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reached the agreement with junta supremo during mission to help 2.4 million left devastated by the storm three weeks ago. The move is positive, if not late. Disaster experts say that unless the doors to aid were opened, thousands more people would die of hunger and disease, adding to the nearly 134,000 reported killed or missing.
McCain Rejects Hagee: US presidential candidate John McCain rejected the backing of Rev. John Hagee after an audio recording of the preacher saying that God sent Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land was published on the Huffington Post. Rev Hagee then withdrew the endorsement, saying he had been misrepresented and did not want to figure in the presidential campaign. McCain faced criticism for seeking the endorsement - he's now described Hagee's comments as "crazy and unacceptable."
Italy Goes Nuclear: Italy announced yesterday its five-year plan includes resuming the building nuclear energy plants. A public referendum resoundingly banned nuclear power and deactivated all its reactors 20 years ago. Growing concern over energy contributed to the decision. The minister of economic development said, "by the end of this legislature we will put down the foundation stone for the construction in our country of a group of new-generation nuclear plants. An action plan to go back to nuclear power can not be delayed anymore. Only nuclear plants safely produce energy on a vast scale with competitive costs, respecting the environment.”

CitizenSugar, McCain, and Obama Talk Troops Today

After recent heated exchanges between McCain and Obama regarding the war in Iraq, and a controversial ad from Hillary's campaign, spurred the conversation to focus on the commander-in-chief aspect of the job today. Both spoke out about troops and their credentials to lead them at events in Texas.

Barack Obama in Houston today emphasized the "sacred trust" we have with those who serve, saying that his priority is to fully fund veterans' health care, and that currently "we are not serving our troops and our veterans as well as they have served us." He went on to say, "I'm running for commander in chief on a record of standing up for our wounded warriors."

At a town hall in Round Rock, Tex., today John McCain fielded a question from a Marine veteran about mental health care for veterans. John McCain answered similarly by paraphrasing a quote from George Washington that he carries with him, saying that the willingness of future generations to serve, rests solely on the treatment we give those who have.

Taking care of the troops wasn't just a topic on the campaign trail, a lot of Sugar readers shared their experiences of serving and serving from home today. I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for your stories and thank you for your strength.

Troops Overseas Give More Money to Obama by 6 to 1

US troops deployed overseas give six times as much money to Barack Obama, compared to John McCain. The Center for Responsive Politics, which conducted the giving-analysis, also made conclusions about the military's overall contribution pattern:

Despite McCain's status as a decorated veteran and a historically Republican bent among the military, members of the armed services overall - whether stationed overseas or at home - are also favoring Obama with their campaign contributions in 2008, by a $55,000 margin. Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel has gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama.

Some military personnel might give to the Republicans but not McCain. The totals only include donations over $200, since smaller contributions are not reported to the FEC. Thus, the study explains that "these figures are likely to disproportionately represent the mood of officers, who have more disposable income to spend on politics than do the lower ranks. But because young people tend to be more liberal than their elders, the total dollar figures could lean even more in Obama's favor."

The audience of vets gave the presumptive Republican nominee only a halfhearted reception. After the event the local paper interviewed 14 veterans. Only one said he is a certain McCain supporter. Obama Campaign Takes Money Now, Asks Questions Later

Is Obama's campaign piggy bank a murky shade of sneakiness? By allowing donors to use prepaid credit cards, which are for the most part untraceable, the Obama campaign could be allowing donors to dodge limits or hide a donor's identity. That combined with a huge chunk of donations being given online, basic security measures to stop illegal or anonymous money from hitting the campaign account are nonexistent. The campaign's solution is to take the money now, and study the list for illegal donations or discrepancies later.

The campaign says the FEC rules don't require screening of the money before it's been accepted, but their methods seem problematic. Recent filings have included donations from the likes of "Doodad Pro." The biggest problem seems to be the prepaid cards, which makes it impossible to check for any of the identity or contribution limits, as well as whether the money is coming from a foreign source, a problem they've faced all campaign. An investigation of the money situation was prompted in part by a $174,800 donation from one person listed in a FEC report - the limit is $2,300. Problematic in itself, but made worse by the fact that the person didn't even do it - someone else was using her name.

This can't be the campaign finance reform Obama's in favor of - can it?

Barack Obama Raises $150 Million in September Alone

Today Barack Obama and John McCain must file their September fundraising numbers with the Federal Election Commission; but yesterday, Obama's campaign manager shared some good news with supporters: Barack raised a record of $150 million in September alone.

Perhaps more impressive, the campaign added 632,000 new donors to the cause. The average donation was $86. McCain is busy spending $84 million from the public financing, and the RNC raised an unexpected $66 million in September.

Obama has big plans for the money. He's apparently going to spend $5 million in West Virginia, a state thought to be in the bag for McCain, and he's buying up as much TV time as he can find. While some point to Obama's opt-out of public financing as an unfair advantage, the Obama campaign says they're building a movement for change from the bottom up.
