Gwen and Gavin Lose a Little of Their Good Luck

Gwen and Gavin were back to their courtside box to root for their favorite Roger Federer in the men's singles final at Wimbledon in London yesterday. Unfortunately, they couldn't keep the hot streak going, and Roger lost to Rafael Nadal. It might have been a disappointing day for some, but at least they had adorable Kingston waiting back at home to put a smile on their faces.

Courtside to Poolside: Women in Sports Weekend

Not only did we have a three day weekend, but the world of women's sports was alive with excitement.

Whether you were watching Wimbledon or not, a sister on sister final match must intrigue you. The Williams sisters dueled it out in an exciting final match (7/5, 6/4). In this match up Venus came out on top, continuing the friendly sibling rivalry – the last time Venus beat younger sister Serena was in the US Open in 2001. The sisters also won the women's doubles title. Congrats ladies and thanks for bringing tennis excitement back to the states!

Off the court and into the pool, mommy Olympic swimmer Dara Torres made an amazing comeback indeed! Not only did she win the 100 meter freestyle as well as the 50 meter freestyle events, she broke a US record too. With already nine medals to her name, Torres is still hungry for more and pushed herself to make the US Swim team after taking seven years off from competitive swimming. Now we just have to wait to see how she does in the Olympics.

We will definitely have our eyes on Dara as well as Venus and Serena when the Beijing games begin. Are you getting excited for the Olympics? I certainly am!

Gwen and Gavin Watch Wimbledon Come To a Close

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale cheered on their pal Roger Federer at Wimbledon's men's singles final yesterday, but the Swiss lost out to Rafael Nadal in the longest ever final. The exciting match marked the end of the tournament at London's All England Lawn Tennis Club, which saw Venus Williams beat Serena in the women's singles final on Saturday. The sisters got to celebrate together later when they won the women's doubles. Other famous faces in the stands over the weekend included Cliff Richard and Boris Johnson, and us Brits had something to celebrate too, as Laura Robson flew the flag for Britain and won the girls' singles final. Maria Sharapova Brings Style to Wimbledon 2008

Yesterday Pop asked if you were watching Wimbledon this year. I am not an enormous tennis fan, but my attention has been caught by Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova. The beautiful young blonde player has brought a touch of style to the court this year with her tuxedo style tennis top and high waisted shorts, all in white of course! Her Nike ensemble includes tailored shorts as an oppose to her usual tennis skirt. What do you think of her style?

Beauty Copycat: Fringe Benefits Like Maria Sharapova

Wimbledon has begun, and already the stakes are high – well at least in terms of style. Serena Williams looked typically glamorous on the courts yesterday in a white belted trench coat, while blonde siren Maria Sharapova has been seen around London with her on-trend, long fringe – that's more than a nod to Kate Moss's look.

Maria's fringe adds an effortlessly messy edge to an otherwise over-perfect, Barbie girl look. The fringe has been showing up on my trend radar for a while, the whole hair-in-the-eyes gives it a sultry edge, as well as having a retro feel. Maria's choppy fringe suits her strong features, but I'm sorry to say, I've noticed some girls wearing fringes without a thought to their face shape. It's tempting to try and cut a fringe yourself, but I'd really recommend getting it done in a salon, at least the first time, then you can pick up tricks for maintaining it at home.

John Vial, Creative Director of Realhair, says "As a general rule, fringes tend to make the face look wider, so if you have a long face a fringe can enhance the eyes and cheek bones simultaneously." If you have a round face, then be extra-careful as a fringe can often make it look rounder still. John advises that if you have a wide face, then "its best to avoid full fringes and work towards one that is softer or asymmetric".

Both Maria and Kate Moss now have grown-out fringes that aren't too full, so can be worn swept to the side for a boho look. When wearing a full fringe, like Maria's was in the Sony Ericsson ads, for example, John says that "it looks great if the middle is slightly longer, as this tends to lift the eye area, whereas rounded fringes can make the eyes look heavy".

Venus Williams Is in Shape

2008 Wimbledon champ, Venus Williams turned pro at age 14. She won her first grand slam title at 20. Now at 28, she is still winning and she shared some of her secrets of success with Shape and here are some highlights.

On Motivation: As far as motivation goes, Venus tells us who has inspired her the most. It's Serena, no question. "Without her, I couldn't have achieved anything. She's helped me believe in myself." Serena loves to give Venus little sayings to remember, such as, 'If you take your opportunities, more opportunities will come.' "That got me through one final at Wimbledon," recalls Venus. "It was a ridiculously difficult match and I was behind until the last three minutes. I kept saying that line over and over in my head: 'If I take the opportunities on the court, more will come.' I was also thinking, 'I want to be like Serena; I want to win like Serena.' And I did."

On Practice: She recommends you practice and practice more! It’s the key to confidence, says Venus. “You have to practice to develop your talents - and learn to enjoy putting the effort in,” she explains. She doesn’t just practice on the court; her gym routine keeps her in the winner’s circle.
On Her Core: Her success on the court is not just her power serve, but a well conditioned core. "I dedicate one entire workout each week to it, but I also challenge it during other exercises – it's where so much of my power comes from."
