Do We Really Want to Reclaim the 80's?

We're at this very curious juncture in fashion whereby the fads of our forefathers are returning full force. By forefathers, I'm referring to anyone and everyone who loyally tuned in to watch Full House on Friday nights. Full House is great and the comedy is cute, but this family photo (snapped circa 1980-ish) is neither great nor cute. Let it serve as a visual warning: we're walking a slippery slope and we cannot allow our fondness for 80's fashion to flourish any further. Waste no time: trash that stock of Aqua Net now, before it's too late. And, yes, you're very welcome.

Trend Alert: Button Through Skirts

I remember clearly a button front skirt that I owned when I was much younger. It was a dark blue denim with silver buttons and I thought it made me look just like Cher from Clueless. Well, now that fashion statement has come back around again as button through skirts emerge on the High Street.

This Spring you can tap into another '80s trend with these skirts, if you're feeling really brave you could even team it with a crop top and knee socks. New Look have a cute red skirt (£18) which you could wear with tights on cooler days or bare legs and sandals on warm days.

This style usually sits a bit higher on the waist meaning it will be quite short! What do you think of yet another style revival?

A Stroll Through 80's Fashion With Mr. T

"Everybody's gotta wear clothes," says my favorite 80's star, Mr. T. "If you don't, you'll get arrested!" After seeing some of the styles he walks us through in this video, however, I think arrests are going to happen anyway. I've issued many anti-80's fashion statements in my short time here. Perhaps after viewing this, you'll finally heed my warnings. It's ugly, people. Really, really ugly.

Mischa and Milla Do Fashion Week 80s Style

Mischa Barton and Milla Jovovich mugged for the camera at the Lou Doillon Party for Lee Cooper in Paris yesterday before hitting up the Miu Miu show today as part of Paris Fashion Week. Don't both girls look 80s-tastic with their off-the-shoulder and brightly colored outfits? And doesn't Mischa just look thrilled to be there? Smile! Milla may be partying it up fashion-style overseas but back in the states it was a big weekend - her Jovovich-Hawk line for Target officially hit stores.

It's Heeeeere... Stella McCartney's Gap Collection!

Stylish mamas can breathe again... the wait is over! When word broke that Stella McCartney was going to design a line of children's clothes for GapKids and BabyGap, fashion forward mums were chomping at the bit to get a peek at what would surely be a fabulous line sheet. And like she always does, mama Stella delivered.

I can't decide if Ellen Pompeo inspired her chic gray matter or if the late pop icon Michael Jackson had any influence on the rock star royalty's thrilling juvenile look. Perhaps it is a mashup of the two that produced the zippered skinny jeans, leopard faced dress, a "Bad" military jacket, and the oh-so-cute pink ombre layered tutu. Whatever it was, we're lovin' the kick back to the 80s for our wee ones.

Stella McCartney's Spring '10 show just unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, and one of her closest pals, Gwyneth Paltrow, was in attendance. While other stars have been dressing way up for the shows, Gwyneth kept it casual chic in cropped acid jeans. It's a minimal look, with a slight nod to the '80s via the acid wash and the bold shouldered Stella McCartney blazer.

Backstage Pass To LFW Spring 2010: House Of Blue Eyes

The House of Blue Eyes Spring 2010 Fashion Show took place at Jalouse nightclub on Friday evening. The makeup was created by Illamasqua Artisitc Director Alex Box who collaborated with Johnny Blue Eyes on the futuristic, Egyptian with a twist of Sci-Fi style.

The clothing had a kind of 80's, burnished gold, androgynous edge to it, so they wanted the makeup to reflect the same kind of look. Even the men wore as much (if not more) makeup than the women.

Walking in the show was Britain's Next Top Model Winner Mecia Simone Simson who looked gorgeous (pictured here) and showed us all that she can really strut her stuff.

FACE/CHEEKS: To begin, skin was prepped with Satin Primer to create a flawless glow. Next, Cream Foundation was mixed with a touch of Powdered Metal in Bebhion to create a glistening base. Cheeks were contoured with Powdered Metal in either Erzule or Thalia to create an 80's, sculpted look. Then, good old fashioned masking tape was applied in a "v" shape on the face so that when Liquid Metal in Solstice (the gold colour) was liberally painted on, there would be perfect symmetry. To create depth, the Powdered Metals were also used to sculpt the sides of the nose and over temples. Illuminator in Halcyon was also used under the brows and down the centre of the nose.
EYES: Brows were also quite strong. To acheive this look, Alex used Eye Brow Cake in Vehement mixed with Sealing Gel. Then, False Lashes in 15 were applied to the top lashes and False Lashes in 13 were used on the lower lashes to create a rabbit in the headlights type of look. Finally, Liquid Metal in Enrapture was smoothed over the lid for a burnished finish and were defined with Medium Pencil in Sophie.
LIPS: Lips were left almost bare, with just a small dab of Sheer Lipgloss in Brilliant smudged on top of Cream Foundation for a glossy finish.

Lucky us walked on over and got the chance to chat with her for a few minutes about her background, her beauty secrets, and her thoughts on having a brand-new Spring 2010 Mulberry bag named after her!

You'll have to wait until later on in the week to hear about the amazing Alexa bag, but for now, I've got the skinny on her signature winged eyeliner, her theory on why she's only had a spot once in her life (erm, can you say skin envy) and the icons who've been her beauty inspiration.

Thanks. It's because I’m half Chinese.
What are some of the beauty products you can’t live without?
Hmm. I don't wear much makeup. I literally never get spots. Literally. I’ve had them about one time in my life. I’m just saying, it has nothing to do with products. That’s all crap. I drink water and I have good genes. I do use Declèor. They have an oil that’s really nice because I have really dry skin actually.
When did you decide to make winged eyeliner your signature look?
I don’t think I have ever decided. It just happens, every day because I’m really boring and I don’t know what else to do! When I realized it made my eyes look better, I just stuck with it.
Who are some of your beauty icon inspirations?
I’ve always loved 60's women like Jane Birkin and Julie Christie, and this type of make up (winged eyeliner) literally suits me better than shit 80's makeup. I look shit in lipstick too. I think if I looked alright in (dark) lipstick that would be my thing.
