Feb 12 2009 - 5:00am Gwyneth Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix posed together on the red carpet at a Ferragamo and Cinema Society hosted screening of their new movie
Two Lovers in NYC last night. Gwyn had on another daring outfit while Hilary Duff was happy to be there. Joaquin managed to suit up for the cameras including that of Casey Affleck who is still documenting Joaquin's recent
career change from acting to rapping.

Wow.. that was beyond awkward. More than anything, it's just heartbreaking to watch. I hope he's more okay than he seems.
1I really hope he was acting..the begining was pretty funny but towards the end..AKWARD!
2I never watch Dave but I suppose he was at his best here. Phoenix was awkward and Dave was his usual smug self...but it did manage to entertain.
3Good lord the man needs to be institutionalized. I give props to Dave because he was hilarious even with Joaquin refusing to answer his questions.
4Gwyneth looks ridiculous. Phoenix should get some help ASAP.
5O..k..
6haha! that was hilarous! i dont think it seemed awkward at all...dave completely made a joke out of it. joaquin is seriously freaking crazy tho!
7Oh my God! I used to love hin so much as Johnny Cash! What happened to him? I totallly missed that rapper-stuff...
8I think I believe the rumor that this is just some project or something weird like that. If not, uhh he needs some kind of help.
9That interview will be a Letterman classic. When Dave eventually retires, this will be in the highlights--for Dave, not for Joaquin! What, did someone have a gun to your head Joaquin and forced you to be on the show? If you didn't want to be there, didn't want to promote your own movie that you'll receive a percentage from every ticket and DVD sale, then why bother going on the show?
10I think it is just a stunt
11Wtf is with Phoenix?! Cripes!
12OK, Joaquin, you actually have a contractual obligation to support and advance the movie. You wanna be in breach? Keep this type of crap up.
13I decided not to watch the clip because I already knew it would be awkward as hell, like watching figure skaters fall down.
14But I'm sure he acts like an idiot and that he deserves nothing more than an eye- roll for trying to be edgy and subversive.
Separately, Gwyneth does NOT do it for me, I want her to be funny in an interview or do something to shake up her Stepford image.
omg - i was watching the interview and couldn't figure him out. i don't know what his deal is these days, and i almost have to feel bad for his wife and family since he's just ODD.
15Gwen was pretty cute on The Ellen Show, when Ellen had her go door to door with her to promote Proof. you could tell she felt awkward doing it, but she did it, and it was pretty funny. After that interview, and one on Jon Stewart, I started warming up to her some.
16srsly, if he really wants to promote his hip/hop career on letterman maybe he should have been a good sport and participated in the interview. I love Dave - his remarks at the end are hilarious. I am really hoping at the end of the documentary Casey is making about Joaquin's career change he looks in the camera and screams " YOU'VE BEEN PUNK'D!"
17Is this for real with Joaquin...OMG....I can't tell. If it is I'm devistated. It's so bizarre it just can't be true. On the other hand, I can see him completely taking this turn. It's freakin me out!
18i really hope that he is just acting and that everything is just a hoax. ahhh. but i love how dave handled it and his little comments such as going to his house and chewing gum. lol.
19I agree with those who find this part of a "persona"--it didn't have the same legit "crazy" that Farrah and Crispin Glover and other truly crazy guests have been like on Letterman. It all seemed very forced. And yawn.
20i love joaquin he is soooo funny and out of it and doesnt give two sh*ts, well done !!!
21He was totally putting that on. That's not legit craziness at all. But he seemed to get peeved at Dave near the end...kind of an *sshole performance.
22
about Crispin Glover!
23If it's an act, its pretty sad, imo.
wha?
24PLEASE CAN SOMEONE POINT OUT THAT GWYN IS WEARING LEATHER SHORTS???????
25that was funny!
26Ok seriously what is joaquin on there? He's either really high or a complete as$h!le and full of himself..I have to say at least Dave kept it light hearted but seriously Joaquin should rethink his interview skills because thats just sad to watch..funny for us watching tho!
27That is just SAD.... omg. I LOVE him as an actor. I wonder what drugs he's on.
28I hope he doesn't turn out like his brother. That was hard to watch.
29This video is not available in your country or domain.
That's what I got when I tried to watch it. I'm actually kinda relieved now.
30LMAO...it's a JOKE! Do you really think Casey Affleck would be following him around, not helping him, watching his demise if it wasn't???
31He is off his rocker!!!!!!!!
32What the hell was he on?!
That was really hard to watch. I might be alone in my opinion, but I thought Letterman acted like a jerk. Joaquim wasn't the easiest guest granted, but Letterman's snipey comments didn't help the situation. Neither of them put their best foot forward for this one.
33Well, Joaquin, you continue to confound me. I don't know if he's just f-ing with us or if he's nuts. But props to Dave: He is truly a professional.
34What has happened to him?? That was painful. I am glad Dave continued as he did. Why did he agree to an interview if that's what he was going to do??
35"I think I believe the rumor that this is just some project or something weird like that. If not, uhh he needs some kind of help."
Me too. If not, he has to be on drugs or something!
36Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
37If its an act, I really don't get it.
38Who thinks acting like a jackass is a good career move, other than Andy Kaufman.
"i almost have to feel bad for his wife and family since he's just ODD. "
ilanac13 what are you talking about?
Joaquin is not married and he doesn't have any kids.
39YIKES! I just watched it and he was a mess but the audience was laughing at him the whole time even when he didn't do anything!
40i thought the interview was hilarious. joaquin is a GREAT actor and he's using his skills to comic effect. bravo...
41And he's outta here!!!
42I think it's all a big hoax. I think he's taking a page out of Andy Kaufman's book and pulling off a giant prank. Awkward and weird, sure, but interesting to watch.
43Isn't Joaquin known for hating interviews and all other kinds of attention?? Why he's there, beats me.
44I didn't watch the video for fear of second hand embarrassment. I did, however, watch Two Lovers last night on HD NET movies and it was very good. Predictable ending though.
45I am liking Gwyn's hair a lot lately, but her outfit? Not so much! Especially those darn leather shorts. Yuck.
46Why do people insist on pronouncin his name "Waaaaaquin"??? There is a J at the beginning, and let me clue you in, it's not silent!
47Umm..seriously Silvers567? It's spanish. J pronounced like H...flows into the other letters here and becomes silent.
48No, it doesn't. It's my first language. J doesn't flow into anything. It's a more raspy, guttural J. It's now Uaquin, or Waquin, or Guaquin like many say it (I've also heard Guan). http://www.elearnspanishlanguage.com/sounds/jesus.wav
there is a nice lady saying "Jesus!" (apparently she must have seen Joaquin's antics too
)
49If they were saying his name wrong he would have been told them how to say his name!
