Strangers with Candy Crew Reunites . . . For Kids

I wouldn't exactly name Strangers with Candy, the 1999 Comedy Central series, as an example of child-friendly fare. And if I were looking to make an actual after-school special - not a Strangers-style spoof - I don't think creator Paul Dinello and star Amy Sedaris would be the first people I'd call.

But Nickelodeon is apparently way, way cooler than I am: The network has hired Dinello to direct Gym Teacher: The Movie, which will air on Nick in September. The movie stars Christopher Meloni as an ex-gymnast who's up for a PE Teacher of the Year award. According to Entertainment Weekly, Dinello personally ordered Sedaris to "pack up her wig" and join him on set; she'll play the principal.

And this won't be the only time they collaborate with the kids' network: EW reports that Nickelodeon also has its eye on Tanner Hall, the Dinello-written, Sedaris-starring movie that got its start as a failed UPN pilot back in the day and features Sedaris and Chris Kattan as dysfunctional parents. Hmm . . . could the awesome Nickelodeon of my childhood be making a comeback?

TV Teens Are Taken by Wintuk

The newest Cirque du Soleil show, Wintuk, premiered at MSG last night bringing out some of our most favorite new TV stars - Blake Lively and Ed Westwick (Serena and Chuck) from Gossip Girl. In case you missed all the in depth coverage of last night's episode (which was amazing, btw), check it out here. Also out to see the whimsical new show was Abigail Breslin, Leelee Sobieski's tights and cute Hunter Parish, who plays Silas on Weeds. There's no fun like watching a few good hours of crazy, crazy flexible people bouncing around in elaborate costumes, right?

First Glance: Nights In Rodanthe - See It or Skip It?

Nights In Rodanthe (out October 10) is based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, the author of The Notebook, which should probably indicate to you whether you'll be in the faction who love it or hate it. I know that movie splits audiences down the middle!

Starring Diane Lane, Richard Gere and Christopher Meloni (with an uncredited James Franco), the movie is about a doctor who is traveling to see his estranged son, but unexpectedly feels sparks with an unhappily married woman at an inn in North Carolina.

Naomi Stands for Her Man at the Opening of Talk Radio

A pregnant Naomi Watts was glowing in blue at the opening night of boyfriend Liev Schreiber's Talk Radio in NY over the weekend. In the play, Liev's character is a Cleveland shock jock who is in love with his own voice. Liev, of course, received glowing reviews for his performance which isn't surprising considering he already has a Tony for Glengarry Glen Ross. Maybe Talk Radio will get him another one for the mantle. Naomi, Madonna and gorgeous Natalie seemed to think so anyway - at the end they led the crowd in a standing ovation.

This weekend turned out to have something for everyone in terms of award shows. While The Grammys and The BAFTAS seemed to have stolen the show so to speak in terms of flash and star power, it's also important to remember who makes it all happen. The writers! Without them there would be no movies to watch or songs to sing. Luckily they have their day to shine as well and shine they did at the Writers Guild Awards Friday in NY. The two big winners of the night were Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed. Guess this narrows the race for The Oscars a bit. The Men Arrive at the Emmys

Oh Simon - put that hairy chest away. It is like he wanted to compete with all the ladies on how much cleavage he could share. Oh and the Ray Bans - are they really necessary? We know it's sunny, but most people don't walk the red carpet with sunglasses. Simon is just too cool to do it any other way. As for the rest of the men, they seem to be having a blast. Jon Stewart is too cute, but McDreamy is still the number one man we can't wait to watch again this fall.

Desperate Housewives Desperate Again

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Garrett announced the 58th annual Primetime Emmy award nominations this morning and the big talk is all about how the Desperate Housewives and Lost were left out of the best series nominations. In fact, the only housewife to get a nom was Alfre Woodard. As for those who were Academy favorites this year, 24 got 12 noms, Grey's Anatomy got 11 and Will & Grace received 10. Also kudos to Lisa Kudrow for being nominated for The Comeback. Maybe now HBO will realize that was a show they should have held on to.

The Awards are scheduled to air Aug. 27 on NBC, with Conan O'Brien as host of the Shrine Auditorium ceremony. To see all of the nominees, read more
