Author-extraordinaire Jacqueline Wilson's Dustbin Baby has been adapted for the screen with a wonderful cast giving touching performances in this tale about a girl who was left in a bin.
April Johnson is an angry 14-year-old, played with suitable teen angst by Dakota Blue Richards, who you may recognise as Lyra from another book-to-screen adaption, The Golden Compass. The eponymous April has moved from foster home to foster home following her disadvantaged start in life, and yearns after the mother she never knew.

We brought you all the orange carpet polls and pictures from the Nickelodeon UK Kids' Choice Awards yesterday, and now it's time to get on to the show and the award recipients! Big winners yesterday included Ant and Dec who won three awards, and TV series Drake and Josh which won two awards. The show's stars Josh Peck (who I loved in The Wackness) and Miranda Cosgrove picked up the Kids' TV Show award, and Josh also picked up the TV Actor gong.

Today FabUK, BellaUK and I have all been focused on the 2008 Nickelodeon UK Kids' Choice Awards, so make sure you check out all of our love it or hate it polls! Dannii Minogue was hostess for the ceremony (which will be televised next weekend) and she turned up looking stunning in a beautifully glam silver and blue dress.
The Saturdays showed up in their trademark matching outfits, I wonder if they ever get bored of all dressing similarly?!

E! is showing the programme 50 Cutest Child Stars: All Grown Up on TV tonight and it got me thinking about the current group of child stars gracing our cinema screens. Abigail Breslin was inducted into the Girl Scouts earlier this week and it was great to see one of the world's most famous 11-year-olds involved with such a "normal" childhood activity.

The His Dark Materials fantasy books by Philip Pullman may be well-written and mesmerizing, but as a cinematic experience, the movie version of the first book doesn't really have two CGI legs to stand on. I've never read the books, in part because I wanted to critique The Golden Compass for what it is: a film. I don't think allowances should be made for the movie based on the quality of the books — they're two different mediums.

The stars of The Golden Compass took their fantasy world to the red carpet in London Tuesday night. Nicole Kidman looked flawless (and allegedly botox-free) on Keith's arm, while Hugh Grant was perfectly nonchalant with his undone buttons. Daniel Craig looked stone faced, as did his ex Bond girl Eva Green, but he sounded excited about his new movie.

The Nickelodeon UK Kids' Choice Awards nominations have been announced ahead of September's ceremony – which will be the second British KCAs – and children and teens across the nation are voting for their favourites online. We saw the US picks earlier this year, but the UK ceremony has a fun peppering of Brits we all know and love among the nominations. Doctor Who is nominated for four awards, including one for David Tennant, and Catherine Tate and Freema Agyeman are battling American teens Miley Cyrus and Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly) in the Favourite Female TV Star category.
