Penelope Cruz was the guest of honor at yet another party celebrating her Oscar nomination in LA yesterday. Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas hosted at their home out on their patio with guests that included Kate Hudson and Rosario Dawson. If Penelope ends up taking home the trophy come Oscar night, she'll have plenty of friends to thank in her acceptance speech.

The stars of Grey's Anatomy were out picketing in support of their writers (or former writers, as the case may be, Isaiah Washington?) yesterday. This morning was a bittersweet one for the show, as it was nominated for two Golden Globes — Best Dramatic Series as well as Heigl for Best Supporting Actress. Naturally, Heigl spoke to Entertainment Tonight about what this means.

Yesterday, Joaquin attended a press conference to reintroduce the Department of Peace and Nonviolence Bill. Joaquin may be a staunch activist in his free time, but his film choices don't always reflect his peace-loving beliefs. That is, unless his next film, We Own The Night, co-starring Mark Wahlberg about the Mob in NY is somehow violence-free.

Today would have marked the 99th birthday of prolific writer Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher (most commonly known as M.F.K. Fisher). She was a prominent food critic and one of the great culinary writers of the 20th century.

The genre of food-based autobiographies might not exist if it wasn't for MFK Fisher. In 1932 MFK (Mary Frances Kennedy) was inspired by an Elizabethan cookbook and set out writing essays about her own cooking. At the urging of a friend (who later became her second husband), she published her first book, Serve it Forth, in 1937.
