Fantastic Mr. Fox: Lives Up to Its Title

For the past five years, Wes Anderson's wide fan base has been waiting for his first fully animated film. Would his adaption of Roald Dahl's children's book, Fantastic Mr. Fox appease the same crowd that holds Bottle Rocket and The Royal Tenenbaums near and dear to their hearts? The answer is an emphatic yes, and the best news is that you don't even have to enjoy Anderson's other work to fall in love with this film.

The story follows the wily Mr. Fox, a professional robber turned family man (er, fox) who just isn't satisfied with his quiet life working as a newspaper columnist. Even a move to prime real estate isn't enough to satiate his appetite for a little trouble making, and Mr. Fox (or "Foxy" as his friends call him) decides to take on the biggest adventure of his life. Mr. Fox isn't your average wild animal; in fact he's just the opposite. He lives a civilized life with his wife Felicity (Meryl Streep) and 12-year-old son, Ash, making an honest living as a newspaper columnist. Like a kid who can't sit still, Mr. Fox has trouble curbing his desires to rebel and go back to his life stealing squab and running into trouble. Against his wife's wishes, Mr. Fox convinces his dim-witted but trusty sidekick Kylie (Wally Wolodarski) to take on one last hurrah. The crime? Ripping off the three biggest (and meanest) farmers around - Boggis, Bunce and Bean. When Mr. Fox starts an all-out war, he is forced to join forces with his family, friends, and neighbors - and that's where the fun begins.

The film's brilliance lies in the fact that Fantastic Mr. Fox is a movie for grown-ups disguised as a kiddie flick. Even with Anderson's name stamped all over it, there's no denying the furry animals dressed as humans. The animation makes the plot play out like a story book come to life; we're taken deep into the fox hole and beyond in a world that looks like a dollhouse made for fuzzy creatures. Kids will love the adventure and the colors, but the witty dialogue and quirky characters are made for the grown-ups.

The movie features a crew of lovable characters who deliver hilarious one-liners when they aren't breaking into impromptu dances. There's nothing new about a movie featuring animals acting like humans, but the actors make the movie the gem that it is. Jason Schwartzman playing a crabby 12-year-old but using his regular deep voice is genius. Clooney and Bill Murray (as badger, Mr. Fox's lawyer) bantering back and forth but replacing swears with the word "cuss" never gets old (as in "This place is a cluster cuss" and "What the cuss is wrong with you?").

Rare is the animated film with this much wit, cleverness, and chemistry between characters, but Fantastic Mr. Fox hits it right on the head. Score one more for Mr. Anderson.

This week marked the finale of Bored to Death's debut season, and I'm wondering what you all thought of the show. It took me a few episodes to warm up to the comedy, but my love for Jason Schwartzman can't be stopped.

We already know that Bored to Death will be back for a second season, but what do you think of the first - yay or nay?

George Clooney Brings Jokes to a Fantastic LFF Opening

George Clooney changed out of his casual clothes into black tie for The Fantastic Mr Fox premiere at the opening of the London Film Festival in Leicester Square last night. He was joined by Elisabetta Canali, who wore a black outfit like Cindy Crawford and Myleene Klass, while Sophie Dahl matched her dress to the red carpet. Sophie's step-grandmother Felicity was also at the premiere, and said the author of the original book Roald Dahl would have loved it. Earlier in the day George attended a press conference at the Dorchester Hotel with his costars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Jarvis Cocker and director Wes Anderson, and joked about adopting Brad Pitt's kids after Jarvis had to explain to him what "broody" meant

George Clooney Is Eyeing His Buddy Brad Pitt's Many Kids

George Clooney brought Elisabetta out for the premiere of The Fantastic Mr. Fox at the opening gala of the BFI Film Festival in London today. The two were joined by good friend Cindy Crawford as well as George's costar Jason Schwartzman. At this morning's press conference, George joked about playing the father fox on-screen, even saying he's looking to have some kids of his own. He said, "I'm going to adopt some of Brad Pitt's kids. I owe him a few," and talked about how much fun they had making the movie, "It was like going to camp. We were out in the middle of nowhere on people's farms, doing sound effects and rolling around in the fields." George still knows how to deflect questions about his love life and settling down, but it seems like Elisabetta is becoming a staple red carpet date as he moves his way through three movie's worth of promotion before December.

Mr. Clooney and His Boys Look Fantastic in London

George Clooney arrived in London yesterday and was up early this morning, looking dapper in his gray suit as he headed to the Dorchester hotel. He was out for a photo call promoting The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which premieres during the city's BFI Film Festival. George smiled alongside his costar in the animated film, Bill Murray, who looked a little protective of his mug. George has been filming The American outside Rome, and he brought his Italian companion, girlfriend Elisabetta, along for the trip and out to dinner in London last night.

I've been a fan of the adorable Jason Schwartzman since he played eccentric outsider teen Max Fischer in Wes Anderson's Rushmore. With his crazy bushy eyebrows and deadpan sense of humor, he's perfect to play the struggling hipster-writer-turned-gumshoe in HBO's new comedy series Bored to Death. The Emmy Parties Continue All Around LA After the Show

Lots of celebs had fun at the Emmy Awards last night, and the good times continued around LA with various afterparties. The HBO bash brought out the stars of Entourage, with Jerry Ferrara cuddling up to girlfriend Jamie-Lynn Sigler as AnnaLynne McCord smiled for the cameras. January Jones struck a pose on ET's red carpet, and inside big winners Jon Cryer and Toni Collette chatted with their newly-acquired gold. The exclusive Governor's Party was the destination of Mariska Hargitay, Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm, who wasn't home to see all the crazy moments from the latest episode of Best Drama Mad Men.

Blake Lively picked another low-cut dress to mix and mingle at the HBO event, where Big Love's Ginnifer Goodwin and Chloe Sevigny appeared to be having fun together. Over at the Governor's Ball, Andy Samberg left girlfriend Joanna Newsom's side for a moment to pose next to big man of the night Neil Patrick Harris. Alec Baldwin proudly showed off his statue, and Debra Messing gave a big bear hug to pal Mary-Louise Parker. Kellan Lutz was one of the lone Twilighters making the social rounds, taking a little break from working with Robert Pattinson and the gang up in Vancouver to hit the ET bash.

Today held another round of runway shows at New York Fashion Week as the stars tirelessly head out to Bryant Park to see the latest fashions. Rachel Bilson supported her good friend Brian Reyes and his Spring collection. Kirsten Dunst laughed in the front row of the Rodarte show which displayed Native American looks. Kristin Cavallari showed off her sexy black dress with a cutout back at the Walter presentation as many other celebrities like Nicky Hilton, Amanda Bynes and of course Anna Wintour checked out the scene.

Fashion Weekend Bursts With Starlets, Famous Fashion Faces!

New York Fashion Week didn't slow down over the weekend, and the front rows were star-studded gearing up for last night's big event, the VMAs. Lindsay Lohan ducked into Alice + Olivia and Shenae Grimes, a sparkly Blake Lively, and Rachel Zoe all scored spots at the Diane von Furstenberg show on Sunday. Mischa stepped out for the Herve Leger show as well as to attend an event for The Beautiful Life. Rachel McAdams sat alongside Anna Wintour at Alexander Wang and posed with Leighton Meester backstage at Altuzarra. With so many big events taking place in New York, the fashionista stars were all over.

Hilary Duff and Amanda Bynes were front and center for the Herve Leger show, which is no big surprise considering how often they, especially Amanda, are seen wearing the ubiquitous bandage dresses. Kirsten Dunst mixed things up at Band of Outsiders, while Hayden Christensen was out without his fiance Rachel Bilson at Lacoste. Pilot Watch: Bored to Death

The networks have announced their Fall schedules, but which series will actually be worth watching? Note that a lot can change before a show actually makes it to air, so these aren't reviews, just quick thoughts on how the shows look now. Today's pick is HBO's new comedy Bored to Death which will team up with Curb Your Enthusiasm on Sunday nights, starting September 20.

What's it about? Bored to Death opens as Jonathan Ames watches his girlfriend move out of their apartment and begins to assess his life as a single, 30-year-old struggling writer. As he contemplates how to win her back and what to do with his free time, Jonathan poses as an amateur private detective after a little inspiration from his favorite crime novels. Hijinks ensue.

Who's in it? Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Olivia Thirlby.

The good: The star-studded cast alone is enough to draw an audience, and fans of Schwartzman will enjoy his portrayal of yet another lovably quirky character. The humor isn't in your face, but the subtle jokes and offbeat characters keep the story afloat. Plus, the first season boasts a handful of special guest stars including Parker Posey and Patton Oswalt.

The bad: If I wasn't a Jason Schwartzman devotee, I'm not sure how I would feel about the pilot. Like I said, the humor can be dry and viewers may be disappointed by the lack of laugh-out-loud moments. The first episode isn't bad, but I fear that it may not live up to expectations.

Will I watch? I'll probably watch most of the first season, but I don't envision myself rushing home on Sunday nights to check it out in real time.
