Kate Winslet and Shakira were among the winners at the Bambi Awards in Germany yesterday, which awards trophies for those in entertainment and sports. Kate was awarded the Best Actress award for her work in The Reader, and looked gorgeous in her long black dress as she posed on the red carpet. Shakira switched outfits from the blue and silver Versace number she wore as she arrived - do you love it or hate it? - to another short metallic dress, this time in black, for her performance. Shakira won the Best International Pop Star award at the ceremony - are you a fan?

Kate Winslet Has a Schedule Full With Kids and Costars

Kate Winslet was on school run duty Tuesday as she picked up kids Mia and Joe in NYC. She's enjoying a little break between projects as she spends time in the Big Apple with her kids, though Kate is rumored to be attached to an upcoming project for HBO. She may be chilling out, but her legal team has been working overtime to secure her a victory in a libel suit against the Daily Mail newspaper. Hopefully Kate had a spare minute to put in a birthday phone call to her good friend Leonardo DiCaprio - he just turned 35 and we celebrated with a walk down memory lane.

Kate Winslet Wins Libel Damages Over Exercise Disbelief

Kate Winslet has accepted £25,000 from The Daily Mail after the newspaper disputed her comments about her exercise regime.

Kate filed papers in May saying she was distressed by the feature, which was published in January and disputed a quote in which she said that she didn't go to the gym, but does twenty minutes of pilates DVDs every day. The Mail published an apology in September, accepting that she was not lying, and agreed to pay damages and costs. Kate wasn't present at the High Court yesterday, when the settlement was agreed, but stated:

"I am delighted that the Mail have apologised for making false allegations about me. I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise. I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy."

Kate's Post-Oscar Break Could Lead to an Emmy Next

Kate Winslet stopped to help her son Joe adjust his hood before the pair headed home together Tuesday afternoon in NYC. Earlier this week Kate reunited with her Flushed Away costar Hugh Jackman on the set of the Farrelly Brothers latest project, which is a series of short films. While Hugh's schedule's been jam packed with blockbusters - and preparing for screen time with Robert Pattinson- Kate's been taking it easy this year. She supported her husband Sam as he promoted Away We Go and the only project currently on her horizon is the possible cable miniseries Mildred Pierce.

Kate Winslet Eyes a Cable TV Miniseries

First an Oscar, now an Emmy? Well, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. But it seems Kate Winslet will be starring in Mildred Pierce, a TV miniseries that's currently being shopped to various cable networks, including HBO.

The miniseries is based on a James M. Cain novel about a woman who becomes desperate to keep her family afloat during the Great Depression and ends up opening a chain of restaurants, which - as Variety puts it - "leads to backstabbing, romance and murder." The book was adapted into a 1945 film that won Joan Crawford her first Oscar.

Todd Haynes is writing and directing this new adaptation of Mildred Pierce, and HBO looks like the most likely network to land the rights to air it, though no deal is done yet.

Some people seem surprised that Winslet would do TV at the peak of her career, but I'm really not. Why? Two words: Helen Mirren. The grand dame of British actresses has done both TV miniseries and big-screen films for years now - and I'd think Winslet could do worse than follow in Mirren's footsteps. But what about you? Nerdy, popular, weird, athletic. It's easy to get labeled in high school, and the identity others place on you can help determine how you see yourself into adulthood, even if the label is no longer appropriate.

In the July issue of Harper's Bazaar, the lovely Kate Winslet talks about still finding it odd being described as beautiful:

"Because I think what you feel like as a teenager never really goes away. If you were teased for being fat or thin or having bad teeth, you're always insecure about that particular area of yourself. So I've never thought of myself as any kind of beauty, iconic or otherwise."

It's hard to imagine this gorgeous, down-to-earth, and talented woman not thinking of herself as a beauty, but I've known other beautiful women who are like her. (Honestly, these women tend to be cooler than those who have always felt gorgeous!)

Casual Kate Winslet's In Italy, Revealing All About Airbrushing

Kate Winslet and her hubby Sam Mendes arrived in Italy yesterday, looking casual at the airport. Kate looks almost unrecognisable in her England cap and white framed sunglasses! Kate's looking glam on the cover of American Harper's Bazaar this month and she talks about her image, and seeing airbrushed photos of herself. Kate said, "I have wrinkles here [on her forehead], which are very evident, I will particularly say when I look at movie posters: 'You guys have airbrushed my forehead. Please can you change it back?' I’d rather be the woman they’re saying 'She’s looking older' than 'She’s looking stoned'." Always quick to admit many images are retouched, she also said:

"[Young women] look at all of us, myself included, on these magazine covers and they think 'My God, how does she get skin like that?' And I can tell you, I have so many blemishes under this make-up that have been so fabulously covered, I promise you... [On the red carpet] our knickers will still go up our a** at the most inappropriate moment. And we’ll still want to flick them out, but you can’t because someone is going to catch you."

Kate Winslet Is Just Hanging Around

Kate Winslet got to play Spiderman for her photo shoot in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar. She dangled delicately in front of a gorgeous NYC skyline but also went a bit risque in her sexy black outfit. In the article she talks Oscars, her body, and her life with Sam Mendes. Here are highlights:

On being in the spotlight for awards season: "In the old days I'd just wing it, but now you need to give people what they want, which is someone looking composed, fresh, and put together. Our knickers will still go up our ass at the most inappropriate moment. And we'll still want to flick them out, but you can't, because someone is going to catch you."
On the constant speculation about her weight: "I've heard, 'Oh, she's toned and she's lost weight,' but I am exactly the same as I've always been. The one thing that had to go during awards season was exercise. People would say to me, 'Oh, come on ...' like I was lying about it! Some may find it hard to believe it, but I don't care about that stuff."

I would laugh my head off."
