Jay-Z Hosts an Evening For Close Friends, Thousands of Fans

Jay-Z took the stage in NYC last night for a concert at Madison Square Garden. Beyonce was there to cheer her man on, and she accompanied him afterwards to the official afterparty at his 40/40 club. Also turning out for Jay-Z's show was his travel buddy LeBron James, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Lil Wayne, who's actually supposed to report to jail today for his weapons conviction after having his sentence postponed due to a dental emergency. Lil Wayne even went onstage to perform alongside Young Jeezy and Drake, while LeBron's appearance at MSG had some Knicks fans hoping he'll leave Cleveland for the Big Apple.

Jay-Z Gets Compassionate For Kids and Rihanna

Jay-Z and LeBron James donated 150 musical instruments and $10,000 to Mesa Arts Academy in Arizona on Saturday. Beyonce was there to spend Valentine's Day with her husband and play with the kids as well. While the couple had nothing but smiles, Jay-Z joked that being around so many children wasn't exactly inspiring him to get working on a family of his own. After the event, Jay-Z spoke out about Chris Brown's alleged assault on Rihanna. Check out the video after the jump where he asked people to support her and show some compassion for the young singer. Jay-Z might not be ready for fatherhood but he's already a great honorary big brother.

Judging by your reaction to yesterday's Do, Dump, or Marry, I thought it'd be fun to discuss another basketball player - LeBron James. He has a clean track record, he's got amazing talent, he's young, he has a great presence in the media, and he's got a few titles under his belt - All American and Rookie of the Year, to name a few.

I know some of you aren't attracted to the cockiness of these professional athlete types, but there's no denying their "it" factor, and I happen to think James has got it! He's serious on the court, but his smile shows that he's got a fun side too. Almost all of you wanted to dump Kobe, but what about his Olympic teammate? Tell me ladies, would you want to do, dump, or marry LeBron James?

Fab Flash: Controversy Surrounds April Vogue US Cover

LeBron James is the first ever African-American male to appear on the cover of US Vogue. He is the coverstar alongside Gisele Bündchen, in a Calvin Klein dress, on the April issue of Vogue US, but the image has faced criticism due to the pose of James. The cover shot by Annie Leibovitz has been compared to King Kong sweeping away a helpless damsel (although Gisele looks like she's having fun rather than being terrified). James has issued a statement defended the cover telling the Sunday's Cleveland Plain Dealer, "The Shape Issue celebrates athleticism from start to finish. LeBron is on the cover with Gisele because he is a basketball star and he was photographed in that spirit. We think LeBron and Gisele look amazing together on the cover."

WWD interviewed several African-American editors who were more critical. Men's Fitness editor in chief Roy Johnson, for example, argued,

"It's a reminder that as African-Americans, we have come very far to have an African-American male featured on the cover of Vogue, but we have very far to go to continue to educate people within our industry regarding the power of images and the potential impact they can have on their readers."

While there was initial excitement that basketball star LeBron James is the first black man ever on a Vogue cover, the April cover image has stirred up more than a little controversy.

Detractors are focusing on the prevalence of racial stereotypes: James in King Kong-like pose, grasping cover partner Gisele Bundchen in an overpowering way. James himself, however, is pleased with the cover's outcome: "Everything my name is on is going to be criticized in a good way or bad way. Who cares what anyone says?"

That's a very level-headed way of seeing it. What do you think?

You Can Find Jay-Z in Club 40/40

Jay-Z had plenty of friends to help him get the NYE festivities started early at the grand opening of his new club 40/40 in Las Vegas last night. Beyonce and Solange both went for sparkles with surprisingly tame but still fun and flirty dresses. Jay managed to pull in crowds from all the worlds of entertainment, with Mary J. Blige and Robin Thicke supporting their fellow music mogul while Lebron James and A-rod represented the athletes. Looks like Jay had a great night shaking hands and giving high fives in his tuxedo, and we bet he and B are all ready to do it up even bigger tonight.

This past weekend, Bubblicious bubble gum and NBA All-Star LeBron James crowned three victors at the Ultimate Bubble-Blowing League Blowout Tournament. The competition, which was divided into three age groups: 8-10, 11-14, 15+, challenged folks to blow the biggest bubble possible. The winners were Marissa Chamison, 10, with a 5 3/4-inch bubble; Justine Muldonian, 14, with a 5-inch bubble; and Nathan Drosotoulos, 17, with a 4 3/4-inch bubble.
