Kristen Stewart Talks Twilight and New Moon With Seventeen

Kristen Stewart is on many magazine covers in the runup to New Moon's release next month, from Interview to Allure and now Seventeen. She managed to take a break from working on Eclipse and hanging out with Robert Pattinson to sit down and chat about the whole Twilight phenomenon and what she's learned from her character, Bella. Here's more:

On Twilight's popularity: "I'm used to doing really tiny movies. But then it turned into a big deal. I mean, I know how obsessed the fans are - they love it, but we love it just as much!"
On learning from Bella: "You don't need to give reasons for the things you do - you just have to do what you want. And sometimes the thing that seems messed up to everyone else is what's right for you. You have to do it and not be ashamed of it."

Beyonce Knows Herself Enough to Be With Jay-Z

Beyonce Knowles isn't a teenager anymore, but that didn't stop her from sitting down with Seventeen to chat all about her whirlwind year, which includes her stop by the TRL finale tonight, as well as her upcoming double album. She opened up about her hush-hush wedding to Jay-Z, as well as her competition. Here's more:

On finally settling down with Jay-Z: "I was 18 when we first met, 19 when we first started dating. There was no rush - no one expected me to run off and get married. I really don’t believe that you will love the same thing when you’re 20 as you do at 30. So that was my rule: Before the age of 25, I would never get married. I feel like you have to get to know yourself, know what you want, spend some time by yourself, and be proud of who you are before you can share that with someone else."
On what she's learned from her husband: "I guess probably that we’re all human. I don’t care if you’re picture-perfect on every magazine cover, and you’re the most handsome, successful, coolest guy – you still get sad, and you still get your feelings hurt, and you still get confused and vulnerable and nervous and scared. You have to find a person you can make it through the tough times with."
On competition with other artists: "I feel like I’m my competition. I don’t try to compete with other people. I just try to better myself. I go and watch everything that I’ve done. I have my YouTube days, when I watch every performance, and I listen to my music, and I watch my videos to figure out what I need to do, what I need to fix, and how to become a better singer."

It's rare to get a peek into her relationship with Jay-Z, especially about their vulnerability, but it's part of what keeps her human and able to be her own best motivation.

Blake Lively Spills For Seventeen

From Vanity Fair to Seventeen, Blake Lively is racking up her magazine cover girl credits this Summer. We already know that she vented about being compared to Paris Hilton, but in the article she also opens up about her costars' special talents and staying away from the nightlife, all while playing coy about Penn. Here are highlights:

On getting silly with her co-stars: “Everyone is really funny and has such strange things that they do. Like Leighton does amazing voice impressions, and she can impersonate anyone’s face. Chace does an amazing impression of Scott Stapp from Creed. Ed is always singing. Taylor is just so adorable, I just want to bake her a cupcake. And Penn does these silly dance moves, and he’s very witty and quick, so it’s fun to have sharp banter with him.”
On why she doesn't hit the NYC hot spots: “I don’t drink, so when you’re going out to a really loud place, where you can’t talk to other people, and people are drinking, you can’t really have a conversation. I just never really found too much joy in it. Especially if there’s something else fun to do, like play Guitar Hero.”
On how actors fall for each other off-set: “Maybe when they kiss off the set – because it’s definitely not romantic on the set, that’s for sure. When you’re saying these words that people are making you say to one another, nothing about it is real or genuine. So if two people connect outside their characters, then that’s how they get together.”

We know that Miss Blake spends plenty of time working on her off-screen kissing, but we admit we're curious to see what happens with all the on screen romance between Serena and Dan when season two starts up again. In fact, we have quite a few questions for those kids.

Could You Sign a Body Peace Treaty?

For obvious reasons, I'm not a regular reader of Seventeen, but I'm always psyched to pick up a teen magazine and see stories promoting positive body image. Seventeen is especially great about this, and it's even gone so far as to create a Body Peace Treaty that women of all ages can sign, declaring that they will be more accepting of their bodies.

The pledge, which has been signed by celebs like Miley Cyrus, Hayden Panettiere, Fergie, and Ciara, lists 12 promises women should keep in order to avoid being obsessed with food and weight. To see my favorites from the list, read more

I think these 12 points are great reminders for all of us. The Body Peace Treaty isn't discouraging us from eating well or staying fit, but it does reinforce the fact no one's body is perfect, and so it's pointless to stress so much about our appearances. Here are some of my favorite promises on the list.

Remember that the sun will still rise tomorrow even if I had one too many slices of pizza or an extra scoop of ice cream tonight.
Remind myself that what you see isn't always what you get on TV and in ads - it takes a lot of airbrushing, dieting, money, and work to look like that.
Remember that even the girl who I'd swap bodies with in a minute has something about her looks that she hates.

Rachel Bilson Goes Fresh and '80s in Seventeen

R-Bils covers galore! After the slightly skeevy GQ look and cuter Lucky cover, I think I'm going to say that Rachel Bilson's February Seventeen spread is definitely my favorite. My 12-year-old self feeling all cool reading Seventeen is especially thrilled about it. For the photoshoot Bilson got back to her '80s-baby roots with the look, which I can't help but love. Inside the magazine she got a little bit girly and a little bit candid talking about mom time and boys (yes, even Adam, sigh). Here are highlights:

On having a mom who is a couples' counselor: “You know, as a kid, you’re not as willing to be open with your mother just because you’re younger and not as mature and you don’t realize that it’s actually a good thing to do. Now that I’m older, I talk to her about anything. But I think she’s a little bit more willing to talk to me about things - where I’m still like, ‘Ugh, Mom! Come on!’”
On dating costars: “You know, a lot of people don’t like to date people they work with. But I think that you can’t help who you like - it’s as simple as that. When you’re surrounded by people, it just becomes more of a thing: You’re probably gonna like someone you work with or whatever, because you get to spend more time with that person. You get to know that person - you really can’t help it. I don’t think there are any rules.”
On keeping her relationships private: “With Adam, we tried never to put it in anyone’s face. We never took pictures together, and we never really talked about our relationship until maybe a couple years into it. I think it took a while to talk about it at all. I don’t like to talk about that personal stuff - romantic stuff - it’s just too personal, and a lot of that is so exposed. But you want to keep certain things to yourself. It’s not like I have any secrets: I just choose not to talk about certain things.”

Only a few more weeks until we get to see R-Bils with her boy Hayden in Jumper - I'm so keeping my fingers crossed that it's good. Either way, I gotta believe there's a whole new group of girls just a little too young to remember The OC learning to love Bilson outside of Summer Roberts. Matt Ready for a Comeback With Young Zac

Matthew Perry and Zac Efron got to work on the set of their new movie Seventeen in LA on Friday. These two don't really look all that much alike in everyday life, but we can kind of see the connection when looking at their side-by-side jackets and shades. We have to say that while Zac isn't winning many votes as your favorite rising star or best up-and-comer of 2007, we're interested to see how he does in a non-singing role. As for Matthew, we totally support any chance to see an old Friend back on the big screen.

Hilary's So Over Joel

With all the controversy surrounding Nicole Richie lately, we almost forgot that Joel Madden had another serious girlfriend before he went and knocked up Nicole. However, in this month's issue of Seventeen, Hilary Duff reminds us of the two year relationship she had with Joel - and she's making her feelings about him loud and clear. Here's more:

On the breakup with Joel:
“All of the going out he did after we broke up sort of shocked me. Like, that’s just so out of character for him, and when we were together, he hated stuff like that, so I felt like I just really didn’t know him as well as I thought I did.”

On Joel dating Nicole Richie:
“With the amount of time that we had invested in each other, I felt disrespected that he moved on so quickly…But some people don’t want to deal with how they feel, so they cover it up. Rebound! I shouldn’t say that. You know what, though? Now I don’t care.”

We can't blame Hilary for being shocked and hurt by Joel, but based on recent events, it looks like she got out of that relationship just in time. Besides, between her awesome bikini body and potential new hot man, we'd say that Hilary is doing just fine for herself these days.

New Moon: Better Than Twilight

Let's be honest: for most of you, it doesn't matter what I - or any critics for that matter - have to say about New Moon, the incredibly anticipated sequel to last year's Twilight. The film started breaking box office records before it was even released, and audiences will flock to the theaters for weeks to come. On the plus side, a ticket to New Moon is a win even if you're not a Twihard - provided that you know what you're getting into.

New Moon is not incredibly acted, and it doesn't boast impressive dialogue or larger-than-life special effects. But it's not trying to be the Best Picture of the Year, so I can only critique it for what it is: a fantasy movie about a love triangle between a werewolf, a vampire, and a teenage girl. The movie picks up a few months after where Twilight left off. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is blissfully in love but she can't fight her insecurities about growing older than her perpetually seventeen vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). All Bella wants for her eighteenth birthday is for Edward to change her into a bloodsucker, but a close call with his brother drives Edward to break up with Bella and leave town instead.

The drama following Bella's abandonment is everything we remember from high school heartbreak, from Bella's night terrors to the glazed over look in her eye. The anguish and pain are easily seen on Stewart's face, and her innermost thoughts are revealed to the audience through letters to Edward's sister Alice that will never be sent. After months of moping, Bella finally starts to open up to Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a family friend. As Bella struggles to find hope in a life without Edward, her friendship is complicated by Jacob's romantic feelings for Bella and made worse when Jacob discovers that he's a werewolf (and an enemy to all vampires).

The surprise of the movie is Lautner's performance. We've seen and heard about those muscles countless times before, but he also packs enough charm and charisma into his Jacob that you truly see him as more than just Bella's unrelenting admirer / best friend. He presents himself as a viable suitor for Bella's heart, and it's hard not to root for him against Robert Pattinson's wooden (albeit handsome) Edward. Stewart and Pattinson have chemistry to spare in Twilight, but in New Moon, Bella's relationship with Jacob seems hopeful and comfortable while her scenes with Edward are mostly awkward and frankly not as much fun to watch.

The movie belongs to Stewart and Lautner, but their melodrama is balanced out by the characters who pad out the cast. Yes, we meet the wolf pack and the Volturi, but for the most part the Forks residents and beyond make for some much-needed comic relief. The downside is that while it's funnier than what you'd expect, not all of the laughs are intentional (a scene where Jacob's temper rivals that of The Incredible Hulk comes to mind).

It doesn't take more than a grain of salt to appreciate New Moon for what it is - a film that stays true to its origin and delivers the necessary elements to ensure that you'll be back when the next installment of the franchise comes our way.

London's Calling for Zac Efron

Stop the presses and lock up your daughters! The hardest working man in the teen-idol scene is on his way to the UK. Adults, teens and tweens get ready – Zac Efron's coming to London.

In the next few days he'll be arriving to film his new movie, Me And Orson Welles; a coming of age story set in 1937, and based on Robert Kaplow's comic novel.

When speaking about this new role, Efron confessed he has his hopes pinned on forming a Titanic career similar to that of a former Romeo – he said,

"I think someone who’s made very wise choices is Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s kind of my definition of a teen star because when I was growing up his face was everywhere. I think since then he’s developed an incredible body of work. If there’s anyone I’d like to emulate it’s him."

Me And Orson Welles will be the second movie Efron films this year, following the Big-style comedy Seventeen Again. He'll also fulfill many of the young and young at heart's dreams when he moves on to High School Musical 3 in a few months.

Seventeen Cover Girl Whitney Is Single in the City

Whitney Port looked pretty in her party dress and had her new costars from The City, Roxy Olin and Samantha Swerta, by her side to celebrate her cover for Seventeen's October issue last night in NYC. While MTV promises big changes for the girls in the upcoming season as they focus more on work, there will still be plenty of romance. Whitney apparently just split with her latest boyfriend Freddie Fackelmayer, but we'll get to see their entire relationship play out when the show returns on Sept. 29.
