Fab Flash: Louis Vuitton Donates to Earth Day

Luxury brand Louis Vuitton is showing off its green side on Earth Day by donating 15 percent of all US online sales to The Climate Project. "Over the past few years Louis Vuitton has voluntarily made efforts to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. In addition we are proud to be able to support The Climate Project in its inspiring quest to raise awareness of the climate crisis," said President of Louis Vuitton North America, Daniel Lalonde. This donation is part of the brand's continued relationship with The Climate Project, which started back in 2007 with the Core Values campaign featuring Francis and Sofia Coppola. Clap, clap LV!

Sofia Coppola Sets Next Movie in Legendary Hollywood Hot Spot

I can't believe it's been nearly three years since Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette came out, and I'm happy to learn she's getting back to making movies - this time set in the present day at a famed hotel.

Titled Somewhere, her next movie centers on "a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter, he is forced to reexamine his life."

Stephen Dorff will play the actor and Elle Fanning will play his daughter. I'm a little surprised by the Dorff casting because one of the last things I remember seeing him in was in a Britney Spears video. Landing the lead in a Sofia Coppola movie is a big deal and might signal a Mickey Rourke-like comeback for Dorff. He's also set to appear in the much anticipated Public Enemies.

I'm also intrigued by the Chateau Marmont setting because there is so much Hollywood lore associated with the place. Despite how glamorous it looks on the outside, it's also a symbol of the dark side of fame. John Belushi tragically died of a drug overdose there, it's where Lindsay Lohan took refuge after her 2007 arrest for drunk driving, and it's where Jim Morrison of The Doors suffered major injuries after dangling from a drain pipe (he was trying to jump off the balcony of the hotel). Definitely a good spot to explore Hollywood excess, that's for sure.

As it was Kate Moss' 35th birthday on Friday I thought I'd share with you another of Kate's music video appearances. This pole dancing video for the White Stripes was directed by Sofia Coppola. The slightly raunchy dancing from Ms. Moss means that this video may not be suitable for work.

On Our Radar: Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton

In October it was revealed that Sofia Coppola was designing a line of accessories for Louis Vuitton. The ad campaign star has debuted her line in Tokyo this week which consists of slouchy duffle bags, discreet clutches and retro wedge sandals.

Coppola told WWD that the collaboration occurred after a visit to the Louis Vuitton custom orders department. "To start with I wanted to make a bag for myself and then we talked about making a little capsule collection. My friends and I are always searching for the perfect day bag. It fits all your things but isn’t too big and isn’t too heavy."

The key piece is the SC Bag (presumably after her initials) which is available in dark grey suede, two in calf leather in dark blue and burgundy. Coppola also designed shoes with the aim of crafting "a heel you can really wear all night and it’s comfortable but still looks chic," which took influence from the '70s.

Kate and Kirsten Help Wrap Up the Spring Fashion Fun

The 2009 Spring fashion season came to a close in Paris last night after a whirlwind month of shows in New York, London, and Milan. Lots of stars were out to celebrate, with Emma Watson, Claudia Schiffer, and Naomi Campbell taking in YSL and Chanel while Dita von Teese and Lenny Kravitz checked out Marc Jacobs's newest work at Louis Vuitton. After shopping around the city, Kate Bosworth brought her man James Rousseau to the Miu Miu show last night along with Kirsten Dunst, who is a former face of the brand. Kirsten also made time for some sightseeing, which hopefully kept her mind off the less-than-stellar opening of How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

Most of you loved Sofia Coppola's recent ad campaign for Louis Vuitton but how do feel about her designing for the luxury brand? Rumor has it that the award-winning director will design a collection of handbags and shoes for Louis Vuitton.

Coppola, seen left with one of her designs, has played muse to Marc Jacobs so it makes sense for the two to take their friendship to the next level. Her collection for Louis Vuitton debuts in Japan and will sell worldwide. We can't wait to see Sofia translate her cool and classic style to the iconic brand.

Sofia Coppola Directs Dior Ad

Filmmaker and writer Sofia Coppola is going commercial. After starring in the Louis Vuitton ads with her father Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia has admitted to WWD that she's been directing the latest adverts for Parfums Christian Dior's Miss Dior Chérie fragrance. If her recent films are anything to go by, we're expecting a rich visual feast.

"It's about a young woman in Paris," Coppola told WWD at the Nina Ricci show at Paris Fashion Week, but added “it’s too early to say any more.” She also told the paper that she's writing a new film, but wouldn't give away any more details.

The new Miss Dior Cherie commercial will air worldwide, early next year. It stars Byelorussian model Maryna Linchuk and will have a young, glamorous air to reflect the image of Dior's youthful scent. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see it. Watch this space.

New York Fashion Week has been in full swing with more shows than you can possibly imagine crammed into each day - check out FabUK and BellaUK's coverage of the week so far. As we saw with Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham at Marc Jacobs, celebrity fashion lovers have been lining the catwalks each day, including London party-scene regulars like Kelly Osbourne, Luke Worrell, Agyness Deyn, Henry Holland, Roisin Murphy, Estelle, Daisy Lowe, Mark Ronson and Peaches Geldof.

Of course there have also been tons of familiar American faces attending too, for instance Halle Berry, Claire Danes, Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kanye West, Leigh Lezark, Leighton Meester and Taylor Momsen have all been seen at the shows and parties - so here's part one of my gallery depicting all the celeb movers and shakers taking in the Spring 2009 fashions in New York.

FABTV: The Chemical Brothers, "Elektrobank"

In this Spike Jonze directed vid, Fab favorite Sofia Coppola plays Janet, an injured gymnast. With all the Olympics hoopla, this was the perfect FABTV for right now. Sofia looks every bit the part: feathered bangs, scrunchied pony, toned bod (but maybe too skinny, have you seen today's gymnasts?). It's obvious it's not Sofia with the long shots and complicated maneuvers, but that just makes it more campy. I don't really pay attention to the music during the floor routines, but if someone chose The Chemical Brothers, that would be dope. I'm just sayin'. Drama-filled - oh no, did she injure her faulty ankle? - and easy on the eyes, watch to see if Janet wins another one for the trophy case.
