About a year ago Nicole Kidman signed on to play a transsexual in The Danish Girl, and now Gwyneth Paltrow has signed on to play her (his?) wife. Taking over a role originally slated for Charlize Theron, Paltrow will play Greta, an artist in 1920s Copenhagen who encourages her husband (Kidman) to pose as a female model — but has mixed feelings about the matter when her husband decides to undergo a sex change operation.
This is the second recent project that Charlize has dropped out of only to make room for another big star (the first is The Tourist), but do you think Gwyneth will be a better fit for the role?

Wow, this is intriguing: Nicole Kidman is set to play "the world's first post-op transsexual" in The Danish Girl, which will be based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. The Hollywood Reporter has details:
Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for an female model that Greta ([Charlize] Theron) was set to paint.
When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise.

Gwyneth Paltrow joined a friend for a walk in London earlier this morning with a bright red poppy for Remembrance Day in her hair. She looked chipper despite the recent rumors that her husband Chris Martin was spotted making out with Kate Bosworth, but Gwyneth has other developments to make her smile. She's just signed on to replace Charlize Theron in The Danish Girl, in which she'll star as the wife of Nicole Kidman's transsexual character.

Gwyneth Paltrow was decked out last night to celebrate the opening of London's Dean Street Townhouse, a new restaurant and hotel opened by the Soho House group. It was a rare night out for Gwyneth, who seems to have settled comfortably into her weekday routine with Apple and Moses during their school year. Gwyneth is willing to shake up her schedule when it comes to supporting the efforts of her closest friends, though she'll soon be switching gears in a major way when production on The Danish Girl finally starts.

Fertell is a new at-home fertility test kit for couples. It screens for sperm motility concentrations and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels. Fertell may be helpful as an initial test for infertility, but for a definitive diagnosis it is important to consult a doctor.

A Danish television station held a “Miss Headscarf 2008” beauty contest to show “cool Muslim women who often make up a very fashion-conscious and style-confident part of the Danish street scene.” The hope behind the pageant was to quell the controversy over calls for a ban on Islamic dress in public and foster healthy debate.
One behind the pageant says, "We would like to contact all the Muslim women who are seldom heard in the debate but are often just as preoccupied with fashion and beauty as other women." Entrants in the pageant don't have to be Muslim, they just need to submit a photo of themselves wearing a headscarf.

For those of you who never understood how your college boyfriend could eat delivery pizza every night, we may have found your answer.
A study of 8,900 Danish schoolchildren at the University of Copenhagen has found that girls are better at recognizing tastes than boys, particularly when it comes to sweet and sour. Since males and females have the same number of tastebuds, the difference lies in how they process taste impressions.

The US might be a melting pot, but don't get out that fondue fork just yet — the government knows your ethnic background, where you live, and has plotted it on a map. This one shows the big overview categories, but what if you're Scots-Irish? They've got a map for that, too.

I had your home décor tastes in mind last week, so for the latest Casa Craving Challenge, I decided to see you how well you could instill your personal style into a room built around a piece that isn't everyone's style. I spotted a vintage Danish bench with preppy, rugby-esque blue stripes from Hudson, and challenged you to make it work with your aesthetic in one particular room of your choice.
Everyone did a good job at creating a list that was cohesive, and that you could really visualize.
