After being sworn in yesterday, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated with stars from both sides of the Atlantic in Washington DC last night. The overjoyed couple had their first dance to the strains of Beyonce singing "At Last", and there were lots of performances at all the balls. Alan Cumming watched fellow British stars Sting and Elvis Costello sing together at the Creative Coalition's Ball, while Tobey Maguire, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Rosario Dawson enjoyed music from Kanye West and Kid Rock at the Be the Change Ball.

It's hard to say bad things about a movie this well-intentioned and sweet. It's a story about Iraq War soldiers that is heartwarming and funny, which is something we haven't seen much in films about the current war. I have no idea why the trailer for The Lucky Ones includes Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You," a song practically engineered to force people to cry, because this movie isn't really sad.

Rachel McAdams looked radiant and boho chic at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of The Lucky Ones last night. She arrived solo in the late Summer dusk, but I'd like to think that Mr. Gosling has a little something to do with that big smile of hers. Ever since the amazing photos of them back together kissing at lunch we've been waiting for our next McAdams/Gosling moment, which joins The Time Traveler's Wife on the list of things we're excited to see from Rachel.

"Well of course it is — war is messy. It can't be all perfect!"
Despite the use of one of Sarah McLachlan's sappiest tunes and the three-strangers-thrown-together-on-road-trip shtick, The Lucky Ones looks like a really good movie.

Paris and Nicky Hilton were out on the town in LA last night (no surprises here), but lots of other stars came out of the woodwork as well. Benicio del Toro and Russell Crowe were among the A-listers who headed to Mr. Chow for a dinner hosted by filmmaker Julian Schnabel. Somehow we can't imagine that Tim Robbins and Oliver Stone had tons to talk about with Paris, but maybe former bad boy Colin still has a soft spot for socialites.

Maggie Gyllenhaal represented the young blood amid some of Hollywood's finest seasoned veterans to join Peter Gabriel in hosting the WITNESS 15th Anniversary Focus for Change Benefit Dinner in NYC last night. Maggie looked a little blah in polka dots while Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn had their Banger Sisters reunion. It can't be easy for Hollywood's leading ladies to have to make room for fresh talent, but we're glad to see that they can come together for a good cause.
