Now that I'm in weekend mode, I must divulge a bit about my hotly anticipated New Year's vacation to Thailand. If you desire a foreign land with great food, awesome beaches, wonderful scuba diving and snorkeling, diverse fellow tourists, killer nightlife, and — of course — fun shopping, add Thailand to your vacation queue. My friend and I spent a good 12 days there, mostly island hopping, and we both plan to go back. One of my favorite veg-out bands is Air; even the name denotes a mellow vibe.

As you may have heard, there's a new album from that Arcade Fire band coming out today. But not to be outdone by a bunch of overhyped Canadians, an army of other artists — including !!!, Air, and the Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr. — are also unleashing highly anticipated new CDs today, making this one of the best days for new music so far this year. (Coincidentally, all of these artists' names start with "a," except for !!!, but that one really doesn't count.)
So, rather than my usual Song of the Day, I thought I'd offer you a selection of tracks from the various albums hitting stores today.

Air's music has always been a bit too sleepy for me, but I appreciate that the French electronica outfit is giving itself an injection of sass, courtesy of Jarvis Cocker. The Pulp frontman handles vocals on the track "One Hell of a Party," which will appear on Air's next album, Pocket Symphony, coming out in March. The sentiments will be perfect for anyone still recovering from your New Year's bash.

Have you ever been in the middle of watching a movie when you hear a new song that you immediately fall in love with? This happens to me on a regular basis, and I often find myself rushing home to try to download the song before I forget the tune entirely. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend an advance screening of Up in the Air, when one of those moments hit.

The recently released State of the Air report ranks Los Angeles as the nation's dirtiest city, a spot that LA has unfortunately held for a decade.
The report, commissioned by the American Heart and Lung association, found that 186.1 million people, more than half the US population, live and breathe in areas with dangerously high levels of air pollution. The rest of California did not fare so well either; the report found that the number of estimated premature deaths due to poor air quality, particulate matter specifically, has tripled.

Nearly a year ago to date, I let you know that Meg Ryan had listed her six-bedroom, seven-bath Bel-Air home for the tune of $19.5 million. With no bites, she took it off the market in February. Now, she's relisted the property with a new real estate agent, knocking the price down to $14.2 million.

I'm well acquainted with air guitar competitions, but until today, I was unfamiliar with the R-rated equivalent, the Air Sex World Championships. After watching a few videos, I'm pretty intimate with the concept: horny hopefuls take the stage (usually clothed) and simulate having sex with an imaginary person. Like air guitar, but with more thrusting.

For Dyson, innovation is a breeze. My favorite vacuum brand has just released a new fan, the Dyson Air Multiplier ($299.99-329.99), which is very unconventional. The fan uses a trademarked technology to draw in air and amplify it 15 times, producing an uninterrupted stream of air, instead of using the blades or grills we're accustomed to.

So you sprung for the MacBook Air? Then I don't feel weird telling you to spring for a custom MacBook Air sleeve from AB Sutton. You pick a hot shade of leather to sheath your laptop in, and provide AB Sutton with your initials for a monogram, and then looky: No one's going to mistake your MacBook Air for their MacBook Air at the airport or at Peet's.
