Kirsten Dunst Opens Up About All the Good Things

Kirsten Dunst got back to nature for the cover of December's Allure. She's out and about discussing her upcoming film with Ryan Gosling, All Good Things, which we caught a lot of them filming last year in NYC. Kirsten sat down to chat about her occupation, her thoughts on Twilight after starring in Interview With the Vampire, and her romantic status. Here's more:

On loving vampires: "I watch True Blood. I love vampire stuff-it’s sexy. There’s a danger element, and it’s sensual, what they do. I love the movie Twilight. It satisfies the 14-year-old girl in you."
On being born an actress: "A kid doesn’t come out being, like, 'I’m going to be an actor' . . . I think everyone is born with natural abilities, and it just happened that mine is something I got famous for."
On her ex, Jake Gyllenhaal: "It would be nice to see him, but we’re not good friends."
On her current romantic status: "If I had a beau now, I wouldn’t say. Until I’m married, and even then, why?"

It's Hard to Resist Kristen Stewart's Allure

We caught a sneak peek at Kristen Stewart shooting the November cover of Allure back in July at the Santa Monica Pier, and the issue is finally about to hit newsstands. It's yet another cover after her recent appearance in Interview as she makes the rounds to discuss her latest film in the Twilight series. She sat down to chat all about her personality, what sets the movies apart from all the other vampire stories, and even Robert Pattinson. Here's more:

On her dating Robert Pattinson: "I read that story every day. . . it’s in a story every day, so let’s not put it in another one."
On why Twilight resonates with fans: "There's a lot of [vampire] stuff out there, but this goes deeper. But it's [more than] just foreplay. Even though it does that so well -it does a f***ing good job - the build up is like, ridiculous. But it's all for the right reasons. You're so very much with Bella. You're so in her shoes that it's a vicarious experience. It's addictive."
On people's reactions to the shots of her kissing Robert in New Moon: "This shot got everyone talking like I have some sort of great ass. But come on, I have a flat ass. I don't know what people are talking about."

On staying true to herself: "I go outside, and I’m wearing a funky T-shirt and my hair is dirty, and people say, 'What’s wrong with her? She needs to invest in a hairbrush.' I'm like, don't you get it? I'm not that girl! It's not like I was really clean cut last year."
On her weight: "I don’t exercise. I’m skinny fat. I worry about being too skinny. You should see my brother, he's, like, emaciated. We both just happen to be really skinny."
On the Bella doll: "She has bigger t*ts than me, and she looks ten years older. I have one, it's in a drawer."
On trying to be sincere: “I spend so much of my time guarding against sounding insincere about something that I would die for. . . maybe I’m overcompensating. . . I care so much. And it gets reported as the opposite. And even seeing this [interview], they’ll be like, Oh, she’s trying to let us know. . . "

It's Always Bikini Season For Fergie

Fergie flaunts her bikini body on the July cover of Allure. Inside the magazine, she sports a few different bathing suit styles, including this revealing black number. She sat down to chat all about the Black Eyed Peas' new album and tour, her role in Nine, and her marriage to Josh Duhamel. Here are highlights:

On staying beautiful on the road: "I need structure. I need to get enough sleep. I need to make sure that I'm having regular workouts, and that they put in time for hair and makeup and nails, because I do have to get my nails done . . . I have to get my roots touched up and get facials, because when you're traveling, the skin doesn't look as nice."
On what she and Penelope Cruz ate to gain weight for Nine: "Everything fried and full of fat and salty . . . we were eating our brains out."
On keeping things spicy with Josh: "Oh, girl, I've got a big chest of fun little numbers, ones that I would never wear in public."

Mommy Julia Roberts Shows Reading Can Be Fun in Allure

I was thrilled to see Julia Roberts open up about motherhood and making family a priority in the March issue of Allure. The spread offers a sweet look at the "Domestic Goddess," (that's Allure's caption, but judging her down to earth demeanor it suits her) and manages to sneak in this beautiful photo of the mother of three reading Munro Leaf's classic book Reading Can Be Fun.

Leaf is known to most as the author of the controversial children's book The Story of Ferdinand, but published about 40 kitschy guidebooks for children in the '30s and '40s, many of which have been reprinted in the last few years. The series, which includes Manners Can Be Fun, Brushing Your Teeth Can Be Fun, How to Speak Politely and Why, How to Behave and Why and Reading Can Be Fun (all about $15), features stick-figure illustrations and wholesome, verse-y text aimed at teaching children the rules of thoughtfulness and etiquette. I wonder if Julia and Danny read the series to little Hazel, Phinnaeus and Henry before bed.

Victoria Beckham Has Allure

Victoria Beckham is certainly trying very hard to solidify her fame in America. She appears on the cover of Allure magazine this month, with glowing skin, a nude pout and sultry eye makeup – courtesy of makeup artist Scott Andrew.

At the shoot, Allure reveals that the former Spice Girl does, in fact, smile. Victoria also admits "I just make the best out of what I have. I’m not out-of-the-ordinary-looking at all – I’m incredibly ordinary."

Hmm, well not sure if ordinary would be how I'd describe her. But with a new fragrance in the works, a successful fashion line and that hunk of a husband, she's certainly a very lucky, ordinary girl.

Bella Interview: Amy Keller, Allure Beauty Director

And so we come to the conclusion of my interview with Amy Keller, the beauty director of Allure. If you missed any of the previous posts, be sure to catch up on them for her advice on beauty and the magazine biz. We'll finish things up today with a few thoughts on antiaging products. If you've been a faithful user of sunblock, you will be very happy to see what Amy has to say!

I’m totally obsessed with sunblock. I’m like a crazy lady who always has to wear it. Is everyone at Allure obsessed, too?
Yes, everyone here is totally obsessed with sunblock. I absolutely wear sunscreen every day. When I even get daytime moisturizer sent to me without sunscreen, I just don’t even understand why people are launching them - because what’s the point? It simplifies sunscreen by having it in your face cream. Also, I’m kind of obsessed with the new face washes that have sunscreen ingredients that actually don’t totally go down the drain. St. Ives has a new one, so you can get it in the drugstores; Freeze 24/7 had the first one that came out last year. So that just makes things even easier. Not that that’s the only thing you should use for sunscreen, but it's good to put it on. We are really into Helioplex here, which is in Neutrogena and Aveeno products.

It's good to hear you say that. I'm starting to see the payoff of wearing sunblock.
It’s very true! We are obsessed with antioxidants here, like coffeeberry, which is in those Revale skin products we have done several stories on. I feel like every dermatologist I have talked to says that if you combine antioxidants and sunscreen, it makes such a difference. One dermatologist said that if you look at women who are age 25, you might not be able to tell who is wearing antioxidants. But if you look at women who are age 35, you will totally be able to tell who has been wearing antioxidants and sunscreen because their skin looks so much younger.

I hope you've enjoyed this series profiling Amy Keller, the beauty director of Allure. Today, she's sharing her best makeup tip and her thoughts on beauty blogging. Read on!

What is the best beauty advice you've ever received?
I always resisted using makeup brushes for some reason. I thought it was an extra step that wasn’t necessary and I was using instead cotton swabs, or the little applicators that come in the packages, but I finally listened to makeup artists. It does make such a difference if you are using a shadow brush or a powder brush or a blush brush. You know when you always read in magazines, “You need to blend this, you need to soften the lines”? That’s what these brushes do, and I have had so much success since [using them].

How do you think the role of a beauty editor differs from that of beauty bloggers? Are there any differences?
Here at Allure, we are totally in favor of people with beauty blogs expressing their obsessions and their passion for beauty. It just makes the beauty topic more relevant. We have our own blog on Allure.com where one of our former beauty editors blogs our products. One thing at Allure that might be different from a lot of the blogs is our close relationships with the top hairstylists, the top makeup artists, the top dermatologists; I can e-mail or call these people and they will call us right back. These are the people we have become friends with, and you can’t just get those people on the phone if you don’t have those established relationships.

Obviously with the manpower we have here, we’re able to research things like what goes on with skin-care stories, or some kind of new technology in a mascara. We look at beauty from more of a scientific angle: How does it work? Has it been studied? We go through all of these steps while we are assessing a product that someone on a blog might not have access to - or wouldn’t even want to. When you are reading something online, it’s not so much about “How exactly does this work, and is it scientific and is it proven?” [Instead], it’s just like, “This is the hot new thing.” So I don’t think we are necessarily competing with people who are doing blogs; it’s just that we’re working in tandem.
