Tyler Florence may be slated to open several new restaurants and stores, but he's certainly not letting that get in the way of what he does best — TV. In addition to Tyler's Ultimate, his current show on Food Network, he's also teamed up with Lifetime and Parade magazine to host a new show, Search For the Greatest American Recipe.
The pilot, which begins production Sunday in Los Angeles, "will follow Florence as he travels to seven regions of the country to find unique homegrown recipes.

Michelle Obama has only been a resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for 10 months, yet she's already managed to set an example for Americans to eat more fresh food, from planting a garden to starting a White House farmers market.
Earlier this year, I spotted a recipe for one of the first lady's favorite White House dishes, a creamed spinach without the cream. I bookmarked it, thinking it would make a satisfying yet light steak side, or a healthful addition to a large Thanksgiving feast.

Every year during the Super Bowl, guacamole is so popular that on game day alone, Americans consume approximately 50 million pounds of avocados. This year's big Sunday should be no exception, and I'll be taking advantage — particularly with avocado prices predicted to rise this Spring.
Here, I've found two recipes.

All I've craved since the holidays are my favorite childhood comfort foods, but I'm trying to eat healthy, nutritious, wholesome foods. That's why turkey meatloaf is perfect for this month — it's the best of both worlds. Although meatloaf made with ground beef isn't horrible for you, these recipes, which call for lean, ground, all-breast turkey meat, are even better.

Baked beans, whether from the South or Boston, are a traditional all-American side. As easy as it is to crack open a can of Bush's, pour into a pot, heat them up, and enjoy, sometimes it's nice to make a delicious batch of homemade (ok semi-homemade) baked beans. These pair perfectly with your standard bbq fare: hamburgers, salmon burgers, ribs, barbecued chicken, or even a nice hearty green salad.

Since I just quizzed your knowledge of classic cooking works, I figured I'd go full circle: Whether it's battered and old or trendy and new, I'm curious to know what your most beloved kitchen book is. I have so many, it's hard to pick, but among them, I love the Bon Appétit Cookbook for its exhaustive collection of American recipes, and Ten by Sheila Lukins for its thoroughly tested instructions, as well as On Food and Cooking by Harold McGee. Even though the last isn't technically a cookbook, it's a great resource for understanding the chemical interactions between food ingredients, and the science behind various cooking methods.

High blood pressure (hypertension) isn't something only older people have to worry about. It can happen at any age and since it can lead to serious heart problems, you want to get yours checked and do all you can to keep it at a healthy level. Aside from exercising regularly and limiting your salt intake, there's something else you can do to ward off high blood pressure.

As someone who's followed Jamie Oliver throughout the years, I was intrigued when I heard about his plans to overhaul the eating habits of Americans on a new TV show. But apparently his latest project is even bigger than that: he's also come out with his ninth cookbook, Jamie's Food Revolution: Rediscover How to Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals ($35). The premise of the title, which hits stores next week, is that cooking good food from scratch saves money and your health.

Although I hold appreciation for foie gras bon-bons and osetra caviar, haute cuisine isn't the only food I'll open my heart (and stomach) to: Since I've never been able to outgrow my love for Americana staples such as processed cheese and the McDonald's Egg McMuffin, I simply embrace them.
Another big-chain menu item I crave? The enormous bowl of garden salad that's a part of every visit to the Olive Garden.
