Tattoo Removal: The Stats Are Surprising

If you have a tattoo or know someone with a tattoo, do you/they regret it? Dr. Tattoff, Inc., a California-based company, hopes that's the case, as it hopes to make its tattoo-removal services available nationwide. With tattoos more popular than ever, it looks like it has quite the potential clientele.

Interestingly enough, 85 percent of the company's customers are women aged 18 to 44. "Tattoos are becoming more common in the workplace and in society," chief executive John Keefe told the Los Angeles Times. Très Bizarre: Bagel Face Body Modification

Club kids in Japan are kicking extreme body modification up a notch by having lumps and bumps injected into their foreheads (and other body parts) via saline inflations or injections of saline into bags that are inserted under the skin. These self-inflicted deformations (like the bagel face saline implantations above) look insane, but they can be deflated by the next day. Want to find out about other body modifications? read more.

Extreme body modification isn't new. A search led me to an illuminating list of body modifications, illuminating because they range from the mainstream and mundane to the culturally specific to the OMG they do not do that! You might be surprised, for example, that getting your ears pierced or practicing body building is considered body modification, but technically, that's what those are.

Culturally specific practices of body mods include the old Chinese practice of foot binding or Kayan women with stacked neck rings. And then there are modern body modifications I'd rather not think too much about: scrotal implants, eyeball tattooing, tongue-splitting, and the baffling practice of trepanation, or drilling a hole into the skull.

We live in a world where people have plastic surgery to conform to certain ideals of beauty, so even though I would never have a saline inflation put in my forehead to look like I have a bagel in it (and I would probably gasp if I saw someone who did), I think there's something interesting about body modifications to debeautify or to look nonhuman (like the horns or wings you can get through plastic surgery to look like devils or angels).

Group Therapy: Grossed Out By His Tattoos

Last night I went a the third date (the make it or break it date in my opinion) with an interesting and fun guy who I totally enjoyed myself with on the first two dates. We work in the same industry and have plenty to talk about. Things were going great and actually started to get hot and heavy until I took his shirt off.

I was disgusted and horrified to see he had four gigantic tattoos. Now I'm not a prude or against tattoos, I've been with guys who have had multiple tattoos before but what got to me was what they depicted: highly sexist images of topless females. He had one on the entire upper part of his arm with a topless angel flying and one foot long tat on each side of his back. The two on his back looked like strippers one with fake boobs and a plaid miniskirt with her ass hanging out and the other with gigantic, pointy nipples and a high waisted thong. In between these two girls was the incredibly cheesy word passion. I actually thought I might puke and flat out told him I absolutely hate them and find them disturbing images of a gross, highly sexualized female pornstar/stripper ideal. After that he told me he liked me for being honest enough to state my opinion. He also said that they didn't represent a lack of respect for females but simply that he could do what he chose to his own body. He asked me to see him again but I don't know if I should, I hate to stop seeing a guy based on his tattoos but seriously I would feel completely uncomfortable being with him at a pool or the beach. Should I stop talking to him because his tattoos (which he says he regrets btw) offend me?

How-To: Kat Von D's Hot Makeup

Last night at the Maxim Hot 100 party in Los Angeles, tattoo artist Katherine Von Drachenberg (aka Kat Von D) arrived with stars in her eyes. Or at least, next to them.

I guess I'll just never get used to someone having about 20 or so stars tattooed around her eye area. Not to say it isn't art; I just find the permanence unbelievable - and imagine the pain.

Kat's makeup (which you can enter to win by taking this quiz) was bold, just like her personality. She wore lots of highlighter on her eyes, her lips were red and creamy, and her blush was strong. I really liked her asymmetrical liquid eye liner; however, her shellacked eyebrows were over the top. FACE: Apply a creamy foundation all over and blend well. Then, dab some concealer under your eyes and to any red areas. Next, dust a loose, translucent powder over your face to set the foundation and the concealer.
CHEEKS: Stand in the mirror and smile. Begin by blending a cream blush such as Nars Creme Blush in Constantinople to the apples of your cheeks and then drag it along your cheekbones. As a finishing touch, smear a touch of highlighter on top of the blush.
EYES: Begin by applying the lightest shade in Kat's True Romance Ludwig Eye Shadow Palette all over the lid. Then blend the deepest brown shadow into the crease and add a creamy highlighter to the brow bone. Next, carefully draw a medium line on the top and bottom of your eyes using her Autograph Eyeliner in Puro Amor. When you are finished, go back and extend the line from the outer corner of your eye until it meets the end of your eyebrow. On the inner corner of your eye, extend the line so that it touches the beginning of your nose. Add a little bit of luminizer on the inner v too.
LIPS: To create Kat's bright-red, Gwen Stefani lips, apply some of her Painted Love Lipstick in Hellbent with a lip brush. Blot and add some more for the ultimate drop-dead, blood-red pout.

Becks' New Tattoo

David showed off a new tattoo yesterday while training with the Real Madrid. He had another angel and clouds added to the angel already on his upper right arm. His tattoo artist said, "David likes to add to his tattoos. He had it done before the World Cup but hasn’t shown it off before." We bet Victoria is jealous of this new lady love in Becks' life.
