Brad Pitt Turns Photog; Who Snaps the Shots in Your Fam?

Brad Pitt turned paparazzi on his beloved brood for the November issue of W. While the actor, his partner, Angelina Jolie, and their six offspring - Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox - often find themselves the subject of snapping shutterbugs, this time daddy Brad was behind the lens and calling the shots.

The Jolie-Pitts had Chateau Miraval in the south of France as a breathtaking backdrop and, most likely, state of the art cameras, makeup artists, and lighting technicians, but many moms and pops are able to capture their family's essence on film. Whether the pictures grace the pages of a major magazine or a handmade scrapbook or album doesn't make a difference. Photos are a way for everyone to preserve memories. Who mans the camera in your home?

We've been waiting patiently for the rest of the W Magazine spread and interview since first seeing the controversial cover of Angelina Jolie and initial quotes last week. Now, the article is here and while only a taste of the 21 page photo spread is out, you can check out eight of the gorgeous photos here. Love how personal and intimate they seem - the whole family looks stunning. There is also the back story on how the shoot came to be with Brad as photographer, but here are more interview highlights:

On Maddox's love of guns and knives: “My mom took me to buy my first daggers when I was 11 or 12,” she recalls. “And I’ve already bought Maddox some things. We take him to a special shop.” She emphasizes that the knife blades are dulled so they’re not dangerous, and that the purchases are accompanied by discussions about violence. But, she says, “we also talk about samurais and about the idea of defending someone as good. We talk about everything.”
On traveling: “It’s part of how I want to raise them,” Jolie says, adding that they’ve shown no resistance to being uprooted. “If you tell them we’re getting on a plane tomorrow, they’re all excited to pack their bags, and if you say we’re not coming back for months, they won’t bat an eye,” she says. “I think they see the world as a home. I’ve seen Madd run through the markets of Addis Ababa [in Ethiopia] and not notice that it’s very poor, or that everyone is African or that he’s Asian. It wouldn’t matter to him.” If Jolie has a favorite possession, she says, it’s the overstuffed Tumi case that holds the family’s travel documents: Vietnamese, Namibian, Ethiopian, French and American passports, plus her own UN credentials.

On Brad: “I love his photography,” she says. “Some people have a hobby, and they find the quickest way to it and are very pleased with the outcome right away. But he’s someone who will really study the camera-he’ll get the most complicated one and really understand the science behind it. And he’s very critical of his own work. I’ll see a photograph and think it’s amazing, but he’ll see all the different reasons why it can be better, and he’ll work very, very hard to improve it.”
On the kids: As we wind up the interview, Jolie asks suddenly, “Want to walk around?” and adds, “You might run into a bunch of small people.” We head back to the garden, where a cluster of pétanque balls are scattered on the ground, and up to the empty pool. “I seem to have lost my children,” Jolie deadpans. She suspects they’re still where she left them, in her and Pitt’s bedroom. It’s become their favorite hangout lately. “Most nights, someone ends up in our bed,” Jolie says. “They’ve just taken over in there-especially right now, because we want them to feel that the babies aren’t special in the room. So our door is much more like a swinging door.” The Jolie-Pitt bedroom, of course, remains off-limits to journalists. And sometimes even to kids, Jolie declares. “The kids do knock before entering,” she says. “We’ve at least got that part down. Because Mommy and Daddy need some space.”

Jet-Lagged Angelina Likes Hollywood But Traveling More

Angelina Jolie has been all over these days talking about her family, movies, and life choices. While her candid nature may not go over well with everyone, any peek into the Jolie-Pitts' unique life is welcome, especially with swirling rumors that there may already be plans for the next addition. In yet another new interview, Angelina admits that they're a family suffering in one way - jet lag. Here are highlights:

On her schedule: "I woke up at 3 in the morning with four kids with jet lag and two babies. I put myself together for a few hours and go out. And then I go home. This is my job."
On playing mothers on screen: "I don't think it's a choice of mine as much as it is something women deal with when we get older. A woman in her 30s is more likely to have roles that in some way relate to family."
On Changeling: "I got pregnant right in the middle of it and I think partially because of it . . . I was so emotional about children that I think something in me kicked into gear."
On LA: "I don't dislike it here. I just really do love to travel. I love other cultures. And I love raising my kids in the world. I'm so fortunate that I get to do that."

It's more of the same from Angelina who has nothing but glowing things to say about her nomadic family and many projects. While Changeling is still doing well in its theaters, we'll see if her name really makes the short list when award season comes.

It's Brad's Turn to Praise the Jolie-Pitts and His Projects

Before Brad Pitt took Angelina Jolie to the premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button we saw him filming an interview for The Today Show in New Orleans, which aired this morning. Brad spoke about the success of his Make It Right program and what it was like meeting the specific families that have already moved in. The actor also spoke about his own family dynamic and the possibility of marriage as he continued on the Jolie-Pitt tradition of talking up his children.

On why he doesn't like talking about his family: "I just walk away feeling bad about it when I do. There's no way to give it true validity and weight and what it means to you in your life. and it seems to get cheapened somehow as it goes through the filter and the airwaves. Some things you just want to keep close to the chest."
On his family: "I will say this - I'm really proud of this family. I look at my sons and daughters. ... It's a rich home, I feel rich being around them. Each one offers so much to the mix. Surprisingly though, six kids is not as easy as you would think."
On whether he'll marry Angelina: "If we feel it's important to our kids we'll do so."

Brad seems a little more standoffish about talking about his family this time around, but he still takes a moment to glow about his kids. After the interview, Anne seemed relieved to reveal that Brad's mustache is just for his new movie, and we do hope he isn't getting too attached to it.

Angelina and Brad Design High-End Jewelry With Asprey

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have tackled a lot together - namely, a growing family. A high-end jewelry line is the latest. Dubbed The Protector, it's inspired by snakes because Angelina considers the reptile a protector of her family. Here at the BAFTA Awards in February, she gave us a sneak peek of the line by wearing the serpent bracelet.

The duo's jewelry line has been in the works for more than a year but will finally debut later this week at Asprey stores in London, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Dubai. A silver baby spoon with a serpent-shaped handle, retailing for $525, will benefit Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, co-founded by Angelina. Black diamond and emerald pavé rings, earrings, bracelets, men’s cuff links, and studs are also part of the line. This is one celebrity designer collaboration I didn't see coming. Did you?

Angelina Talks Falling in Love & Maddox Finding the Internet

Angelina caused some controversy once today already chatting on The Today Show about adding more kids to their family, but that's not the only Jolie press. The actress recently conducted an interview with the NY Times in which she talked candidly about falling in love with Brad and what her children think about Mom and Dad. Here are highlights:

On wanting them to see Mr and Mrs Smith: “Not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love.”
On what the kids think of Mom and Dad: “What’s going to be funny is when they think Mom and Dad are a little bit cool because right now, we’re not cool Mom and Dad. . .Even video games, you know, it’s: ‘Mom, you can’t play this. You won’t know how.’ Oh, they all think I can’t do anything, that I’m just there to snuggle with. But the other day Madd said, ‘Can you do a cartwheel?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I can.’ And he was like, ‘Wow, Mom.’ And I thought: ‘Oh, yeah. I can do some things. You wait. You’ll find out. I’m capable.’ ”
On worrying about Maddox and the Internet: “[He will] look up my name and see some kind of sexy pictures or read a story about himself that isn’t true. There’s a lot we’re going to have to explain to them about how public their family is.”

But when it came to fighting for her kids, she found a strength she didn’t always know she had. And there’s a part of Christine that I connected to her. I kept pictures of my mom in the little purses” that her character carries in the movie."

As with everything Angelina, her statements are sure to stir up some mixed emotions from fans and detractors alike. At least in her self admitted "bubble" she's not too worried about it either way.

Leggy Angelina Talks Racy Photos and Having No Regrets

Angelina Jolie looked amazingly leggy in her short black dress at yesterday's Kung Fu Panda DVD release celebration at Grauman's Chinese Theater in LA. The youthful looking actress posed with her costars in the movie Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman and chatted about her smiley twins. While she always has a big smile when promoting the animated film, she is still doing the rounds talking about Changeling. Unsurprisingly, her openness is her blessing and her curse in the latest interview. Here are highlights:

On talking about adoption: “We talk about orphanages, we talk about their countries and differences, and it’s a source of excitement and pride. I’ve heard Maddox explain to Zahara when they are talking about pregnancy, ‘No, Zee, remember, you were in that nice African woman’s belly. I was in that nice Cambodian woman’.”
On life: “I’m one of those people who believes you just can’t regret things in life. You have to feel confident that it was all part of the journey . . . If you start to regret, start to hesitate and question every move to make, then you live in some different way,” she says. “And for all the craziness I’ve done, I’ve never hurt anybody.”
On the W Photo shoot: “I’d just had the kids six weeks before and felt so private, it didn’t feel right having a photographer fly across the world with a rack of stylish clothes for me to wear. . . It became this one-week project in our house,” Jolie says. The way she tells it, matters quickly got out of hand, and some of the photographs proved far too sexual to be released on an unsuspecting American audience. “Yeah, we thought about it, we’d look at the pictures as art and say this is a really interesting photograph, but then we’d know better and we’d think about how it was going to be received. So we made it a little more tame than it was originally.”

On their family: “Early on when we met, we had this time when we were working together and we just spent it discussing how we saw our lives and what our plans were for the future. And there was a day when we both talked about wanting a large family. At the time I was thinking of only adoptive children, but he saw a big family mixed with adoptive and born children. And I ended up falling in love with a man who I think was destined to have children and suddenly one day it felt right and there it was.”
On the kids growing up and finding out about her past: “I think it’s going to be that they’ll understand they can talk to me about everything, and that by the time they get to be teenagers we’ll have formed a sufficient bond,” she says. “We tell them everything, we’re honest with them. My mother was that way with me.”

When the kids grow up there will be plenty to read about both mom and dad, but they have nothing but love and sweet words for their big family. Well, other than when Brad is telling embarrassing stories on TV.

Do You Believe the Rumors of Angelina Adopting Again Are True?

We started to suspect something was up with Angelina Jolie when she appeared on four magazine covers this week, and now rumor has it she filed paperwork to adopt a child from Syria. Angelina and Brad brought the twins along as they visited the country last month on a charity mission for the UN, where they visited the SOS Children's home. It has been over a year since the Jolie-Pitts added to their family, but there are always adoption stories when they visit a new country. Angelina Is Behind the Wheel, in Front of the Camera

Angelina Jolie took her SUV for a spin yesterday in LA. Unlike Brad's love of motorcycles, when Angelina cruises solo, she seems to prefer the safety of the driver's seat. They were out for a weekend drive together, along with Zahara and a baseball-cap wearing Shiloh. Angelina and her family are hunkering down in LA as she gears up to promote projects and get down to work on new ones. The trailer for Salt just came out, and Angelina's upcoming film The Tourist is locking down a leading man - they're looking to sign Johnny Depp, who's been enjoying some time in California as well.
