Sugar Bits - The Writers' Strike May Be Over Soon!

The striking writers may be back at work on Monday, as studio heads and the Writers Guild are close to formalizing a new three-year contract. Some shows, like Grey's Anatomy and The Office, will probably return to air in the late Spring, while other more complicated production shows, like Heroes, will resume in the Fall. For the next 10 days, we're highlighting our most shocking stories of the year as part of our Best of 2007 coverage. We hope you enjoy this look back at some of the posts and stories that we certainly weren't expecting to see.

While the end of 2006 brought both lifetime highs - the birth of Dannielynn, her wedding to Howard K. Stern - and lows - the death of her son Daniel - to Anna Nicole Smith, everyone hoped that 2007 would finally be a time of peace. Sadly, this was never to be, as she unexpectedly passed away on February 8 in a situation that seemed scarily shady from the get go. From that moment we were thrust into a 24/7 new cycle of Anna stories from the questionable paternity of her child to a judge who was all about the showmanship. No one was shocked when Larry Birkhead turned out to be the father and, somehow, the unlikely hero of the whole mess. He seems to be living peacefully and happily with his daughter now, while Howard K. Stern remains a part of her life. Anna Nicole Smith will always be remembered as one of the biggest headlines of this year, and hopefully in 2008 she will finally rest in peace.

CBS fired Don Imus from his radio show yesterday for racist remarks said to the Rutger's women's basketball team. Advertisers were leaving by the droves and CBS wanted nothing more to do with the controversial host. - AP

Anna Nicole Died of Accidental Drug Overdose

Nearly two months after Anna Nicole's tragic death, the official toxicology and autopsy reports were released this morning. Dr. Perper, the county Medical Examiner announced that her death was caused by an accidental drug overdose. Found in her body were a number of non-illegal drugs, including the sleeping medication chloral hydrate, methadone for pain and many others. Chief Charlie Tiger from the Seminole police department said, “We found nothing to indicate any foul play" and Howard K. Stern will not be charged with anything. Anna Nicole's death was also ruled not to have been suicide. An infection caused by needle injections did cause health problems for Anna Nicole, but it was not the cause of death. In the end, it was a tragic accident. As for the other big mystery, the DNA test determining the paternity of Dannielynn, we will have to continue to wait.
