Last week, a bronze sculpture by artist Alberto Giacometti set a new world record for the highest auction price ever fetched for a work of art. Bidding for "L'Homme qui marche I" opened at $19 million, but the final selling price was three times that — $104.3 million. Pretty impressive, huh?

Our recent Artist of the Day Amanda Stone Talley, who gave us a tour of her New Orleans carriage house, was inspired by The Saints to create a black and gold painting, just in time for the Super Bowl. Considering the big ole Who Dat sign she's hung in her studio window, her inspiration is no secret. But since her pieces are abstract, it would make just a subtle nod to the team in your home.

Relationships are complicated. For some people, a dozen roses is too bold a statement. Too romantic.

Earlier this week, New Orleans-based artist Amanda Stone Talley was kind enough to give us a tour of her glamorous carriage house in NOLA's Garden District. You may have spotted some of her work in the tour, but I wanted to dedicate a whole post to her artwork because, well, it's amazing.
Amanda grew up in Baton Rouge, LA, studied studio painting during undergrad at Mary Baldwin College, and then received her MFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design.

British Brookyn-based illustrator Claudia Pearson has decided to use her two new Valentine's Day prints to raise money for the earthquake relief effort in Haiti. One-quarter of all sales from her 12 x 9 inch Love Vase ($20) and Love Cloud ($20) prints will be donated to Yele Haiti, founded by Haitian-born musician and goodwill ambassador Wyclef Jean. Yele Haiti formed an earthquake alliance over the last day with six other organizations to deliver emergency services and materials to victims of the earthquake, sharing resources when it makes sense.

I tend to gravitate toward artwork featuring people or animals (birds!), and I forget how much I love landscapes. This arrangement of small landscapes in a room by Kristen Buckingham looks really stunning to me. Any grouping of landscapes (especially photographs) work together instantly because they're centered around a common theme — and often share colors.

Apartment Therapy New York recently featured a house tour of NY-based artist Jack Early's former apartment, which is filled with pop art, many his own works. His pale blue and white kitchen is filled to the brim with Warhol-inspired containers with Campbell's soup labels — including prints reading "Cannabis vegetable extract." The tomato-red accents certainly make a powerful visual statement.
